I hear it likes fast cars and long open roads ... it doesn't get the long open roads and the fast cars are mainly 4 show .. ! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

There now Si

What do you want to know? It's an island surrounded by sharp hurty bits, loadsa talent with skimpy tops all looking for a hunky skip. Get your sweet airse over

Guernseys is a nice Island, read pilot info carefully, there are some dangerous tidal runs around there, a large tidal range to.
You need to do a bit of time planning, entry to marinas is about 3+-- HW.
Depsol is an islander and can help with local knowledge if you need it.

Might be worth sending a PM to DepSol - I think Jersey is the place to avoid though, the locals can all count to 12 on 2 hands /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

sorry Rich - could not resist

LOL

Its a great place to visit and the sail can be very enjoyable.

However I would say that you need to get your nav / passage plan right as you don't want to get it wrong going down the Race.

Bearing in mind every week you go out you ask the forum for advice I suggest you start swatting up your navigation before you go on that journey.

You really can't afford to get the tides wrong around there.

Been swatting up on nav work the past few week's, doing quite well, also planning to take a week's course soon.
I dont ask every week come on!

Make sure your passage plan is right - you dont want to get the Alderney race wrong and beware of the rocks around the islands - good pilotage required! Also if you plan on going into the QEII marina then it has a ledge and access is tidal.

How strong does the tide get in the race then?
sorry don't have a chart to hand.
Think i'll go to Beaucette Marina, looks nice.

6/7 knots, best not do any swimming then.
I think i'll right a good passage plan and clear it with you guys if thats ok?
