Atyc rally henley

I have never been one for boat handling competitions anyway but the social side I always thoroughly enjoyed. Has the ATYC Rally had its day? Frankly I don't know, the days of over 100 boats seem to have passed by. This is a crying shame but what the answer is I really don't know.
Perhaps combining the rally with a boat jumble plus allowing accessory manufacturer stands there too would breathe life into the old dog.

Combined or alternating

As I belong to 2 Thames clubs, 1 TVR eligible and the other ATYC, I hear that both struggle to some degree to get attendees and competitors.
It must also be hard work for the organisers who I suspect are also chasing the same sponsors for funding.
Perhaps there is a way of either combining the 2 or alternating the years to accommodate both?

Jazz it up

Used to love going to the ATYC and competing but I do think boat handling competitions are viewed in a different regard nowadays.

Wonder whether making it more of a festival for Thames clubs rather than a competition and dinner and dance would help? Somthing like Sunbury Regatta where different events go on and racing and maybe a few trade stalls?
Will be very sad if the numbers continue to drop off.

There are, at present, 79 boats booked on the rally. (The information is in the library on the ATYC website).

It is our first time at an ATYC rally, although we have been to the TVR 2 or 3 times.

We would have loved to have attended this rally, and to entered the Boat handling, both to represent the club, and to give young 'Rebellion' a good run for his money!#

However, a new career and limited days off means if we do so, either the BCC BBQ, or BCC Laying up cruise would have to go for a burton, and it's soon the 1st September (I'm in the Motor trade, and this is the 'Big day') so it would be madness to go.

I hope it's great, and Alex wins some Silverware for bray!

I hope you have booked the BBQ otherwise you are going to get extremely fit.....

We were the first to book (Smug mode), but we have to leave early on Sunday morning to get Marian & Alex back to Longridge before 0900 to do the second day of their BCU Kayak 3 star. (Not so smug mode!).

In fact that is horribly early.....

At least there are no locks to go through!

fawley meadow

will this rally be taking up all of fawley meadow on the bank holiday weekend. I was hoping to moor up there on the friday night of our bank holiday cruise, but looks like it won't be possible if this rally is on.
If thats the case, it looks like it will be medmenham instead

Ramage recons that there are 79 boats booked in - not all will be there on Friday evening. I know ODCC boats will be there by then ( 6 ) but most people arrive on Saturday so you should be ok :D
I will try and pop down to say hi if I can find you and you are in - if not give us a wave as you pass us if you are going up stream on Saturday hopefully the burgee will be out ;)

You should be ok for Friday night, the Rally doesn't start until Saturday, any early arrivals will be paying standard mooring fees so there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to do the same.

cheers for that. Think we will head for fawley and if's there's no space (or they are charging more then normal), then we will probably moor up by the bridge on the visitor next to the pub and pop into town for provisions and then turn back for medmenham.
Only reason we are down there is because the father is exhibiting at the craft show at stonor park, so we will be popping along on saturday.
