pseudonyms.

Yes I'm talking to you.

I bet you're ex-directory as well!!

Steve Cronin

This needs a proper Money Laundering Regulations compliance regieme IMHO!! No Bullshit and no aliases means we will know who we're talking to.

I'm sure the Doctors prescibed you 50mg's - have you been cutting back on it then without asking?

Anyway - what kind of a pseudonym is yours.

Re: ATTN:- Gutless wonders who use noms de plume &

Why?

I have been consistently posting to this and other groups under the name "Bedouin" for more than two years. I don't seek to hide my identity from any genuine poster on this board - a fair number of contributors know my real name and I'm happy to tell anyone else who cares to PM me.

As a matter of principle I try never to use my real name on any Forum that allows unrestricted access without registration. There are a number of reasons for this - let me give you two:

(a) If I publicise my sailing plans - that implies that I will be away from home at that time. Not being ex-directory, anyone with half a brain can find my address from my name (it's rare enough that I imagine I'm the only one). It seems to be asking for trouble to publish that amount of information in a public forum.

(b) On occasions these forums can get close to meltdown - should I get on the wrong side of a psychopath I would rather it stayed virtual than translated to the real world.

But what's wrong with being open?

This forum actually DOES require registration - at least I can't seem to post from home.

We have never been ex-directory and never will as there are now ways of indentifying any call's origin.

I am who I say I am and it hasn't done me any harm. people can even get my business address from my email address and there have been no abuses up to now. If you are registered with your real details then i wasn't referring to you.

It just would seem to cure all these current ills if we knew who we were talking to.

And here was me thinking it was because you were ultimate flexible friend! The man to have on you're side at Xmas ... disappointed I am to hear it's an attribute of birth rather than accomplishment.

A true twister champion!

Blimey, didn't realise this was such an issue...

I don't post under my full name on any public forum, nor do I publish qualifications or other stuff which might identify me or elevate my profile. It's not even me in the picture - I'm built more along the lines of a racing snake.

I do correspond via PMs if I can help somebody, and will then revert to my full name.

To me this is common sense, for a variety of security reasons covered by other posters. You may have no need to hide your ID from public scrutiny, others do for personal reasons and can't really explain this in full without blowing cover.

Anyway, no point getting too steamed up about it Steve - look where the anon thread went!

Best wishes
Tom (Donatella at weekends)

Steve's nom de plumes were :
Monty the Mounty
Jonathan Poppy

he's just one hell of a pot , or is he a kettle ????? and if he was Monty (or one of the many monty's) , it means he's a swinger , pretty close to twister , no ?

A bit combative this eh???

Steve i could give you my full name but you still would not know who i am
i think my current nom de plume is far more illuminating
There is some info in my profile

I am happy to PM my details to those i think worthy of such info. ( tongue in cheek there)

i will even meet up with posters so long as they are willing to make sure it is licensed premises.

Ex directory i donot know as the home phone is nothing to do with me. my name is not on the bill. i never use it. i could'nt even tell you the number, but i do have it programmed into me mobile.

I\'ll come clean.

OK my real name is Jack Tarquin Jolly! I hope that makes you feel better and you will doff your hat when we pass in the street. However, what is YOUR REAL NAME and how will know if it is the real you when I see you?

What is your problem?

You may choose to post under your full name, I and many others choose not to use our names, but choose to use our boats name or a nickname or whatever.
I have registered on this forum the same as you. I have been accepted by the proprietors of this forum just the same as you.

If my chosen screen name really bothers you, I will explain.

I drive an AC Cobra, I like the car, I use the name. I am a Company Director of a small marketing concern based in Peterborough. I sail from Great Yarmouth. I am 36 years old. I am ex-directory at home, as my wife does not like receiving unsolicited calls from Double Glazing, Kitchen, Bathroom and Insurance reps.

Do you require any more information about me?

You do!

OK, I play football during the winter months for a local Sunday side, and play Cricket from time to time during the summer. I have been married for 4 years and have a son who is 18 months old.

I hope that this will be enough info to satisfy your curiosity Steve.

Have a nice day!

Re: ATTN:- Gutless wonders who use noms de plume &

Perhaps because my work includes consulting in On Line security, I am a bit more concerned about it that you.

My professional advice would be never to reveal personal details in a public forum. I'm sure all the contributors to this forum are decent folk but ANYONE could be listening in. You think it's a risk to travel abroad without travel insurance (acutally I agree with you on that one) - I think it's a risk to expose my details on the internet.

As a slightly lower level of recommendation - I suggest that others do what I do and use a separate email address for forums and newsgroups. Anything coming in on that address should be treated as potentially suspect - and when the level of spam gets too high then just change it.

BTW I for one enjoyed Jonathan Poppy's posts
