Attempt by our Committee to change the Club rules without notifying the members

Perhaps it will be possible to persuade the club at the centre of all this to host the event.

The bar profit alone should make it a worthwhile exercise.

Actually I believe Floyd will turn up, it could be everyone could see the funny side to it all.

Hi Floyd,
Just being diplomatic. Best intentions, I found the new thread comical, as im sure you did. we all need to keep a sense of humour on here. You don't have to be in agreement with NickC, but surely we can have a laugh.

Steveeasy

Steve,

Rest assured, I am having a laugh every time I post or I wouldn't bother!

Now let's talk about meeting up: Would I like to meet the people who post on here? Er let me think about that for a millisecond... No.

To be serious, what part of Nick's personality as displayed on here, makes you think he would be stimulating company? You go and meet him then let me know how you get on. Have a good evening!:)

That invites some comment about mutual feelings.

Hell come round, personally id not be on the forum if I would not be prepared to meet with those with different opinions. is that not what makes this forum so much fun and entertaining. Bring on 1000.

One has to admire an optimist - the sort of person, not the dinghies raced by cut-throat little sods who'd rather drive a supertanker aground than give way.

Did you race Oppies as a child Floyd ? Tell us about your childhood... :)

Meeting up with people through the internet has more unhappy endings than not. Would you want a teenage daughter to follow that kind of lead?

It's all fantasy anyway. It'll never happen but let's discuss it further and in lots of detail and forget sailing.
I think it will never happen because for starters Nick would take the invitation letter and claim it was a threat. He would then post it all over the net and claim he was being bullied. You would have to avoid the middle of a pub. He would claim that most of the people there were other people, and those who were not there had bugged the place and were listening in from Cheltenham.
According to a letter written by a member of the committee which Nick posted here way back in the last century, he is a moaning bore in real life.

For the record, I wouldn't like to meet up with me either.

Haha ...... good post, Floyd!

And it's great to see you lowering your standards Seajet; who's getting to whom here?

Talking of rudders, lets get back on course. As a former member of the club in question I remember with great respect a firm but fair Commodore, (benevolent dictator), who kept the mildly eccentric but essentially chilled out members in check and generally happy. Then he stood down after the required period of service (as per the rules) but none of the members really wanted the job. A relatively new member finally took up the post unopposed. He proposed various 'changes' and this caused some grumblings but nothing was ever put in writing. A person in such a new post might well feel insecure and see any opposition as a direct threat. If you add to those grumblings a 'private' disagreement(the mooring issue), it is easy to see how separate issues became conflated. The 'private mooring matter' should have been resolved quietly and away from the club when first raised. Time has come for Nick to put himself forward as Commodore and others could do the same and then members could vote, thus relieving the current one of the undoubted burden. A change of Committee would be good too, all voted in on the understanding there are to be no changes for at least ten years. The club should have no moorings either and any current yachts on such moorings to be scuppered. My recollection of the club's rules is that they were perfectly adequate. The small print (rules) are there for a reason and even a really simple/small club should stick to them. All private disputes to be dealt with at least ten cables distance from the club. Any members unhappy with how it is being run, should speak first and then put complaints in writing to the Committee. If the complaint is not upheld, the member should either grumble silently or leave.

Welcome!

Some radical ideas there:

- NickC for commodore

- no changes for ten years (sorry, but no changes to what for ten years: the new committee or the rules?)

- scuppering all yachts on moorings (that does sound a bit extreme to me: very glad mine is a mile away)

- I like the notion of grumbling silently

Oh dear, a sensible post. Gaffer tape your doors and hide under the upturned settee with your steel helmet on while you wait for Nick's reply; you how he reacts to anything approaching the truth, even my guesses!
Good luck.

A relatively new member finally took up the post unopposed. ................................................. Time has come for Nick to put himself forward as Commodore .

He had his chance, but obviously didn't want to be arsed with all that bother. So why would he want to become Commodore now?

He has missed an opportunity really.
He could have posted a rant on Youtube and used his Facebook account to get watchers. If he had become viral he could have shamed the club into throwing out the new Commodore (these titles alone make me chuckle) and adopting a more laid-back attitude.

On the other hand he could have gone and joined another club which suited him more.

Why do you want to curtail our daily entertainment. I think the current incumbents appear to be dong a good job.

You don't quite "get" internet forums, do you?

Once started threads take their own course, unless you run one of the special interest forums with moderation of every single word submitted.

The original thread is not "your" thread anymore.

Just accept that everything in life does not go your way and get a positive attitude to your future.
....or take the club to court and waste more of your time, and all of your money becoming totally obsessed.

Not sure why you think Nick does not get forums. I can tell you ive never seen a forum such as this that attracts some quite despicable behaviour that on other forums would not be tolerated. Its a real shame actually as the members that behave in such a way should know better. Forgive Nick for sinning and suggesting individuals don't continually hound a thread for no reason other than sick self satisfaction.

Steve,
The NickC has insulted someone on this thread and has now started another thread mentioning him in the opening post. That is classed as some kind of personal hounding. He is therefore clearly guilty of breaking down all the barriers of normal etiquette.
Nobody else did it, NickC did it himself with malice aforethought. Shows how low he is prepared to stoop, and for no gain whatsoever. And it's yet another example of his double standards; coming straight after his post here of a list of internet etiquette rules copied and made up from various sources.
Nope, unforgivable. And an insult to those like you who seem to leave room for a little sympathy. Surely you can't support such a character?

BTW. for the record: I'll not be requesting the thread be deleted as it's more use as a shining example of Nick's modus operandi. Especially with the personal name shout in the first post. It would have had less impact if I had started it myself. Well done again Nick. Foot-aim-BANG.
