Didn't get down to the boat until late on saturday afternoon, so we thought we would just head up to Clivedon for a quiet night. Lots of boats moored up there when we arrived, but saw a free space on the path, so headed in to moor up. The wife stepped of and went and held the front of the boat whilst I grabbed the rear ropes. Had just started to bang the mooring pins in, when I heard what I thought was a fly buzzing around my ear, only then to suddenly feel a few stings on my leg. Looked down to see I was getting covered in wasp's and realised I was under attack. Got stung about 7 times in total, on the legs, back and the earlobe! - very painful.

We abandoned that mooring very quickly! Headed further upstream to cookham so that if there was any problems at least we could of jumped in a taxi.

I am assuming that the noise of the mooring pins being banged in was what upset them and caused them to attack. Just be careful if mooring up at Cliveden (it was the second mooring on your right as you headed upstream).

Ouch!

We were moored in front of you on Saturday night at Cookham, we just about managed to squeeze into the last available space :)

You may have broken a wasp. This releases a pheromone that causes any wasp in the area to get very angry indeed and look for things that are not other wasps in order to sting them. Its a hive defence mechanism that can have painful results. Been there etc.

If we can eliminate smallpox why not the wasp?

heard from someone in the marina that the nest is still there and very active. Apparantly a narrowboat had moored up in the same spot, and had to move of pretty sharpish this weekend when they noticed all the wasp's.

So, has anyone notified the National Trust so that they can do something about it? Their moorings I believe so they will lose revenue if its not useable.
