Attaching a Barton Jammer to the Boom

'morning all.

I want to attach a single Barton jammer to my boom for the reef outhaul. Barton's instructions state ' 6mm (1/4”) Counter sunk stainless steel fastening, full nuts and penny washers to secure' expecting it to be attached to the cabin top. I can't get nuts and washers into the boom so would drilling and tapping be sufficient or too weak under load? Thanks.

I would & have used rivets before to attach items to a boom. And use duralac where dissimilar metals are being used...
