Extract from Metcheck.com - they were right about 1st half August (sunshine coming) So watchout Biscay Crossers. Also looks like we will get some major thundery weather
Added [Friday August 22 2003 : 9:50:00 AM]

The next few weeks will be action packed for meteorologists as the Atlantic wakes up after what has been a remarkable Summer.

Our main concern is a persistent cold pool sitting in the North Atlantic (around 53N, -30W), our second concern is warmer waters along the 30N latitude which will affect the development of hurricanes.

While we are on this subject, if you can, check out next week, when no less than four tropical depressions are set to develop in the North Atlantic, two of which are scheduled to cross Southern areas of the UK later next week.

http://www.metcheck.com/images/tropatlantic.gif to see the latest GFS forecast for the depressions.
The image shows the UK plus the 4 developing depressions which are set to cross the Atlantic. At present it looks as though storms 2 and 4 could turn North earlier than expected sending then en route as thundery lows to the UK.

money perspective

I wonder what the betting quote would be for depression 2 or 4 currently west bound in mid tropical atlantic to pass over the uk
allow money betting and maybe get better weather forecasts or a measure of their effectiveness ?

Re: Southampton

Hi James - don't ask me - I'm just quoting from Metcheck! That far out is real speculation.

Sorry about your hols and the weather, but for once someone was on my side.

By the way - where do you pull out down there for the winter?

Re: Southampton

I would forecast heavy drooling.Intermittent ooh and ahhing, followed by outbreaks of cheque book abuse.

Possibly loud conversation and some gastric rumblings in the Guinness regions expected later.

Good Question

Winter lay-up space is at a premium up the Tamar. I am still without a billet at the moment. Weir Quay looked after Sweet Lucy last year but it is a long drive from Cargreen though only 400m by boat. Polbathic is highly respected but very tidal and small and full with regulars. Ditton the yard at Millbrook and Southdown. That leaves the Plymouth Marinas and Saltash, about which I know little.

Re: Good Question

I am trying Huggins Boatyard in Torpoint - I'll let you know, but it is a long way from Cargreen.

Hope to see you at the boat show

Re: Good Question

James,
Haven't got out on the river much this year due to the arrival of new sprog, so I haven't identified "Sweet Lucy" yet. Presuming she isn't too huge you might try Warren Harrison's boatyard at Calstock. Lovely trip up the river and the drive from Cargreen is pretty easy.
I used to winter there until I managed to get a space on the Coombe, and never had a complaint.

Re: Good Question

Thank you. I had forgotten about that one. SL draws 5ft 9in and is 10m loa. She is currently on a buoy off Cargreen (white hull, double blue coveline and manky yellow decks)

Re: Good Question

I was looking out for you when I was in the SW, think we passed each other off Prawle Point, were you also in Newton Ferrers at one Point? THere seemed to be a lot of Sweet Lucy III's about though for some reason!

Oh, just great!

Just when I have to take the boat from Jersey to Lymington (weekend before SBS), and then come back a fortnight later (unless someone buys her...) . I can just see a NE gale, followed a fortnight later by one from the SW.

Re: Good Question

They carefully schedule it for the equinox, and then act all surprised when the first of the Autumn gales arrive...
