Athens winter storage

Not a lot of choice in Athens itself: The Zea marina and Kalamaki are typically both very crowded, noisy and dirty. You should try more eastwards in Olympic marina just south of Lavrion. This IMHO have a better service, normally have space and it is actually the marina closest to the new Athens airport.

If you luck out, there is unfortunately not a lot of more options as good Greek marinas are like gold dust. You have to either go west into the Ionian and try the Levkas/Preveza area and north to Corfu (Gouvia). Or you have to go east to Turkey to find a good marina. Not a lot in between. Great beautiful harbours for anchoring, but not a lot of places to leave your boat safely in.

Edit note: let me mention this before someone tries to score a point here; there is actually a very good Greek marina on the island of Kos. However, once you get this far east you are 8 nautical miles away from the Turkish town of Bodrum. There are three world 'Gold Standard' marinas in Turkey within 10 nm's of Kos so you have a great choice once you get this far east.

Gold Dust is definetly true. Lots of places to keep rib's and small boats on trailers, but even those are pretty packed out.
I've just tried a site but it appears down, there is a marina and quite a large area near Lavrio but beware, it could be a bit priccey. I've noticed from my driving around there appears to be a few places around by the old airport search for areas around Glyfada.
Apart from google you can try forthnet.gr and xo.gr
Drop me a PM if you want with your email address if you do find a place. I tend to get around Athens a fair bit with my job etc. If you need someone to pop in just to check everything is okay whilst you are away I may be able to help out. With me being over here and my boat currently back in the UK it can sometimes be a bit of a worry that everything is okay.

Don't be put off. There are plenty of shore hards around the Athens area. Three on the North of Aegina, one at Poros, two on Salamina, and one just south of Chalkis, the bridge joining Evia with the mainland. All are well connected with Athens by frequent ferries or buses. Lavrion boat yard has superb faicilities if you need any work doing.

Broadly, avoid the marinas around Athens. Only some have hards, but prices are high for what you get.

The more ethnic you get, the cheaper it is - pulling out on a wooden sled is quite fun, but needs nerves of steel. Just make sure you can get a metal cradle - they survive earthquakes better . . .

Don't reject Levkas or Kalamata; respectively 6 hours and four hours by frequent buses from Athens.

You'll find all this stuff buried in my website - I think!

Have to agree with one of Jims sugestions, do not discount Lefkas, I have a friend who has wintered there, they could not do enough to help, boat checked regularly lines etc extra check when winter gales (and we do get em!) he will return next winter without a doubt, peace of mind and all that.l

as a permanent greek resident i am pleased to inform you the best and most renowed place in athens metro area is 'karvounis" yard. its in glyfada just over the west end of the seaside road, everybody knows it. if you want to have your boat where the rich greeks do, go for it. its 30 min from airport, in the coolest area in athens. if you want to visit your boat and use it as a hotel during winter time in a very cosy area choose Alimos, 5 kms from glyfada. go to the marina no 6 and ask for Harry or George. Nobody will touch your boat, there is good bus-tram service, if you need them to do any work on the boat you will be impressed, there are cosy restaurants and clubs within the marina area. for really big boats and still near athens you can see yards in Perama, Elefsis....all the way to korinth. these are shipyards but also service leisure boaters.
