Surely an overnight room in Athens for €50 will put you in synch with a bus? And with BA flights three times a day - early booking prices only a few quid more than Ejet?

Easyjet about 50% BA price, half the flight frequency, wildly inconvenient times, add in hold bags and little to choose pricewise. BA x3/day now - goes to x4 day end March and x 6/day in season.

I did pick up a transfer company in Thessaloniki, did me a 150km trip for €80 and a conducted tour round the airport.

How about a hire car?

They have said no, they don't have an office in town.

You might have more joy with Europcar - from memory there's an office in Kalamata @ junction Mezonos/Asinas Odos.

Good luck - it's a long way to walk.

I once turned up @ 100 Kiffousis St on Orthodox Easter Sunday, was lucky and got the last seat on the only Kalamata bus that day.

So it happens to us all!!!

Regarding car cost please note that, for a round trip, toll fees cost around €50. Add fuel for 400 km and 4 hours drive and make a reasonable offer to a taxi.

Would that people read and understood the question before answering...

Trouble is - he's trying to do the trip @ New Year, when taxi drivers have proably elected to have time off.

IMHO he has a very real problem - having tried travelling myself during Greek National Holidays - and I'd be genuinely interested as to how Carmel gets round the situation.
