At the risk of being the most unpopular person....

Sorry wasn't trying to be personal, new to the forum and meant to post a general remark.

I no longer own my own yacht but work in the industry (sailmaking) so it's not always prudent to upset people on this forum - you could be a customer.

Just read Fatipa's response and he's put it far better than I could - he sums up my feelings very well.

Re: This paying for lights lark

is just a matter of system boundaries. If you consider that every person that purchases products in the U.K., which have been imported by sea, is a user of lights. The method of collection for them is already in place & we, as residents of the U.K., contribute towards the cost of lights there, why do we need to pay for an inefficient collection system & fork out even more cash.

In other words the current collection system is adequate & we don't need a load more non productive administrators costing us more money for no benefit.

After all I don't see pedestrians paying more for road crossings & School Crossing patrols. I don't use em I can't be bothered to get out of my car. Why should I pay for them?

Mike

I have held a vhf license for more than 12 years and an amateur class A license for more than 30 years.

Perhaps best you check these things before accusing people of behaving illegally.

You claim to have sent information - I have received none.

No-one asks you to send information, by what right do you claim (and then fail) to send people a product (information) and then charge them for it whether they want it or not. No commercial company could do such a thing.

The thought also occurs, why is the license (tax) payer employing someone who has "no fixed job" title and can only claim to be "something or other"

Clearly you are giving value for money to your employers.

The "gentle quip" (admittedly at your expense) came from the fact that the Ship Radio Licence fee was reduced from £22 to £20 in April 2000, yet you quoted £22. The Airwaves newsletter was sent to ALL Maritime radio licensees which includes ships, so if you have had a Ship Radio Licence for 12 years you should have received all 6 issues.

My job title in RA was Manager, Aeronautical & Maritime Services, unfortunately Ofcom has yet to come up with a sensible Job title only being able to give me a grade, which by the way is Associate in the Professional Specialist job family whatever that means.

As to the rest, sorry I don't really get into slanging matches.

Mike

In an attempt to bring a new slant I would welcome the removal of the navigation buoys - the only reason I appreciate the lights is to help ensure I don't hit the bloody buoys attached to them.

I did not intend to respond further on this but since you are insistant upon calling me a liar I feel I cannot let the matter ride.

I have not received the rag you mention, but that is not my real point

I do not want to receive it. I never asked for it. I don't want it

But I still have to pay for this so called "service"

I am really not interested in the "grade" ofcom have given you.

My point is if you don't have a job why should the taxpayer pay you? Do you seriously expect people who have real jobs to sympathise with someone whose job is " something or other"

You may consider being paid for that as a good thing I do not.

As for slanging matches - I avoid them myself but I will not stand by and be accused of lying. If you speak to people like this as a matter of course I would imagine you are used to slanging matches.

Bit of a chill blowing over the North York Moors, Bergman?

I cannot see that anyone has accused you of lying.

Perhaps worth re-reading the posts once the toothache subsides.

Re:Are all Hams like this ?

Think that you are taking offence here where none is intended. We deal with the agency in our day to day work in PMR frequency allocation and as a holder of a marine licence and a CB licence must say we do receive info by mail as well as using the excellent website.

Bit of a chill? no quite warm really

I honestly don't normally get annoyed and sound off like this, read some of my other posts.

But

the phrase "You obviously haven't had a licence (or a radio i would expect) for a few years" seems to me to clearly imply that I am operating a radio illegally.

I found that offensive

The phrase "The Airwaves newsletter was sent to ALL Maritime radio licensees which includes ships, so if you have had a Ship Radio Licence for 12 years you should have received all 6 issues." clearly indicates that the man is implying that I told a lie in my previous post.

That is why I was (and am) so offended

If you read it differently then fine, but that was, and remains, my interpretation.

More philosophically

Trying to pursuade a card carrying Yorkshireman that giving the Government money is a good thing on Budget Day really is not a good idea

And thats my last word on the subject

So there

Sorry but I think you've over reacted to Mike's post. For example he says you "should" have received all six publications - in the past he has readily admitted failings in the system so you may not have received them. That doesn't constitute an accusation of lying.
His description of his job title is obviously tongue in cheek accompanied by slight embarassment.
Hope you are feeling better/forums/images/icons/wink.gif

I do not believe it!

A management consultant who DOESN'T say what he thinks his audience wants to hear! :-) Have a good day!

PS. Your advice about the Valentine flowers was totally wrong :-)
