Something of a triumph for sensible boating. The Welsh Assembly announced yesterday that they have approved the building of a new marina at Beaumaris, Menai Strait. This decision has been delayed for many months by ludicrous claims from environmental groups that the breeding of great crested grebes in a river a mile away would be affected, or that mussel fishing would be harmed. Complications arose part way through when the first rumblings of declaring the area a Special Area of Conservation appeared over the horizon. However, common sense seems to have prevailed at last, and maybe it will begin to happen soon. Check www.abcpm.co.uk for latest news.

I may be wrong, but I suspect this to be the first new marina, as opposed to modification of existing docks, in UK for a very long time. Perhaps since Conwy, which must be more that 10 years now.

That\'s good news

It's a victory for common sense. I never understood why the planning application was called in by the Assembly after it had been approved by Ynys Mon.

The new marina will not only benefit Gallows Point but the whole area. Thanks for all the Grebe piccies and the work that you did to help this result.

Cheers
