Quick question folks, am currently in Sandown Bay looking to launch my asymmetric for the first time this year. Does anyone know if the luff colour is red or green. It is a MomentumSails Aspin sail but I assume the colour coding of asymmtrics has an industry standard.

My mobile broadband is getting week to apols if I do not get back.

I don't think the luff is green, the sail would not set. Now I have 1100 sq ft of sail in the cockpit that needs to be bagged :-(

Currently just south of Ventnor, it is going to be a tedious night heading for Dartmouth with 9 knots of true wind 20 degrees off my port stern.

Forget the luff colour,

If it is an Asym, it should have marked with "Head" "Tack" & "Crew" at the 3 corners. Follow the signs to set your sail.

My Asym is made with Red luff (Tack) & green leech (Crew), seems different maker use different style.

That is why I said forget the colour and refer to the marked names at the corners. If there is non, ask the sail maker to mark it, or you mark it yourself after the first use.

Look at the angles between the edges at each lower corner of the sail, the clew is the wider angle and the tack is the smaller

"Look at the angles between the edges at each lower corner of the sail, the clew is the wider angle and the tack is the smaller" ...

...and the head has the smallest angle.

Red and green luffs are often used on symmetric spinnakers just so you know whether you're hoisting the sail inside out (it does matter if the sail carries a sail number, logo, or has a recovery line patch)

If it's any compensation I once saw Morning Cloud set a kite wrongly - a clew at the head. Oh how we lesser mortals laughed.

Do you have any chance to lay it out on the grass somewhere? It should be obvious, with longest side the luff. If it is not marked, take a permanent black marker and mark, in very large and clear letters (both sides of the sail), Tack, Clew and Head.

[/ QUOTE ]I've got a cruising chute with the word "Tack" written in big letters on one corner. The only problem is that it's written on the clew!
