Hi,

Fed up with paying Volvo prices for servicing parts.......filters, impellers, drive belts etc. so decided to give ASAP Supplies a go.
E mailed them details of engine serial number and Volvo part numbers and asked for their equivalent product codes so I could place an on line order.
This was on 7/01/04.
Was shocked to get an automatically generated response indicating thet my Email had only been opened this morning, 12/01/04 at 0912 am.
Another working day has now gone by without response.
Assuming I eventually do get a response, would I be foolish to place an order. Is this typical of their service standards ?
I am worried how long it might take to get an order delivered if it takes 5 days to even open an E Mail ?
Anyone got similar experiences with ASAP.

Think you will find that they have gone to the LBS. Most suppliers tend to slow down a bit at boat show time, so not a good time to look for stuff in a hurry.

I've had dealings with ASAP (as a customer) on several occasions. I have found them very helpful, and their prices reasonable. Don't recall any problems with slow deliveries. I would recommend them.

They were very good when I ordered some parts. I ordered the parts on Monday evening, Tuesday I got a phone call to say that I had entered the wrong expiry date so I gave them the right one. Next day it arrived as promised. Cant get much better service than that. However, this is the first time I have used them. We will have to wait and see.

Have used them many times and they have always been pretty quick.

I think as already said, its Boat SHow effect.

Most of us marine related businesses slow down over January, with Boat Shows, Christmas and in my case the dreaded lurgy all complicating life the old inbox can fill up all to quickly. Give them a chance I say.

I´ve had no problems with response imes, although I´ve yet to receive a full order in one delivery - always out of stock of one thing or another. I use them regularly, I rate them 7/10.

I use them regularly. Last year I had a problem with a faulty part which they sent on to coincide with my arrival at my next port under warranty and without fuss. I think they are a great outfit and the delay may, as one forumite has already suggested, be because they have a stand at LIBS

They're ok, but agree re.part orders & sometimes they charge twice for carriage even though you don't specially ask for the out-of stock bits to come later.

Fenders are rather variable-some v.good & some awful (from same batch)

they are ok really, the website is imho crap and i told their man so, they strike me as having email and a website because they have to not as a valuable tool. i bought some stuff off them the other day, did it online aaargh, got an email next midday, and the stuff arrived the next day.

just another thought, asap are good on a lot of things but not in my experience on volvo stuff, keyparts and volspec are the boys (advertise in the back of the comics every month), word of warning get a price off both of them, they have their own specialities and you will get a good deal of either as long as you check, for example, this week, water injection exhaust elbow for my 2030, key parts £160ish, volspec £117ish and yet keyparts were cheapest on thermostat and oil filters.

I ordered online a engine conversion part last tuesday had Email next day confirming my order.
Hoping to get the part some time this week, but a delivery date was not provided, nor asked for by myself, possibly I should have asked, but to be honest not really desperate for a fast delivery, so don't mind waiting in this instance !..

I have found them to be excellent when ordering online so long as they have the item in stock or it is a standard item that has a part number in their catalogue and therefore easy for them to place on back order.

If you have a query about something or you want a non-standard item I would consider going elsewhere - my experience of them getting back to me has been poor-to-abysmal on 2 or 3 occasions.

The reason for the slow response to your email is probably due to most of them being on their stand at the boat show.

I must say that i have always found them efficient and have lower prices than most on some items and give discounts.
Ok So their web site leaves a lot to be desired in visual appeal but it works, slowly, but it works. So i hope that you do get a reply and we can put it down to the barmy boat show.

I order my filters and impeller every year from them - I have only used there phone service, but if the order is plased by 16.00 it seems to always arrive next morning or the day after. I think they are bloody good - try their phone service instead - I think ot goes to the top of the pile.

Last Monday at about 1000 I ordered a VHF radio from Pumpkin Marine. Any time I visit this shop it is very busy. The very polite gent on the phone took my order and said he hoped to dispatch it that day but as he was on his own (everyone else at Boat Show) he apologised for possible delay. The radio arrived first thing next day.

I have used ASAP for some time. They are cheaper than anywhere else I have found (for Thorneycroft, anyway) and deleveries have always been either next day or very soon after. They are also very helpful in finding odd bits.

I have no compalint at all about their service

It sounds as though you have been unlucky, I've used them several times, always by phone, goods received very quickly. The one time they sent the wrong filter, the correct one was sent by return post.

Dear Posters

Many thanks to all of you who are correct - many of our team are on the stand at the London Show (S2814), so, yes, we slower at answering general emails than we would normally be, as we are concentrating efforts to get orders/enquiries out of the door to customers who are in urgent need. We appreciate your tolerance during boat show times.

Apologies to the poster - your email WAS read within 24 hours - via the preview pane on outlook. That of course does not send the read receipt - they are sent once the email is opened which is was on Monday (0907 hours). Two of the days are Saturday and Sunday, and the office is closed at weekends, so it was infact three working days. The enquiry is being worked on, some are parts that we do not stock and need to source for you. We will of course issue you directly a full reply and quotation once we have all the prices, but we are also having delays with our suppliers - they also have staff at the show.
Please confirm, is the enquiry now urgent, or is it still a price request?
Many thanks. ASAP Supplies, UK
