As new Sextant - £200

Whilst taking a donation of clothes to the Age UK shop in Portswood, Southampton yesterday I spotted what appeared to be a new and unused Sextant in its original box. They were asking £199.99 for it. Might be a bargain for someone going offshore.

If it's shiny and brass it's repro junk. If it says Tamaya or Zeiss or Freiberger, Plath or Celestaire, or even with a Russian name it's a bargain, unless damaged by serious misuse.

Interesting statement.. since i know zero myself i had a google.
Appears that your totally correct.
A circa £200 sextant selling in a few chandlers on closer reading admit they are not for navigation.
From what i saw none of the real ones were brass coloured.

There was a thread a couple of weeks ago about a "Kelvin & Hughes" sextant. They're £50 on E-bay, make your own mind up!
