UKHO Permanent/Preliinary/Temporary Notices:
1. ENGLAND - East Coast - Depths. - This preliminary Notice is a continuation of the series of preliminary notices advising reduced depths from Winterton Ness to Benacre Ness. This notice adds 3 reduced depths at the Hemsby Hole and North Caister. The images includes all other reduced depths in the area reported this year.
2. ENGLAND - East Coast - Buoyage. - This permanent notice is confirming buoy moves reported earlier by Trinity House (TH21 of 2024). The moves affected were the SW Holm SHB, South Holm SCB, Newcome Sand PHB and the Stanford PHB.
3. ENGLAND - East Coast - Depths. - Two reduction of depth in Gallions Reach, River Thames. Unlikely to hinder leisure craft.
4. ENGLAND - East Coast - Depths. - One reduction of depth in Gravesend Reach, River Thames, east of the entrance to the Embankment Marina. Unlikely to hinder leisure craft.
5. ENGLAND - East Coast - Buoy. Light-beacon. - Establishment of a new Yellow special lit buoy in the channel to Kings Lynn. Back in July local notices reported the damage and loss of lit beacon ‘B’ following a collision with a fishing vessel. The yellow special buoy replaces the mark approximately 20 m south of the remains of the old beacon which is now regarded as ‘FOUL’ ground.
6. DOVER STRAIT - Depths. - Five reductions of depth in the SW bound TSS between the South Falls NCB and the F1 Special buoy. Very unlikely to hinder leisure craft!

1. River Thames - Sea Reach - Oikos Jetty No. 1 Dredging - on or about Friday 25th October 2024, contractors instructed by Oikos Storage Ltd. will commence dredging operations for Oikos No. 1 Jetty. The general location of the works is indicated by the red box on the chartlet.
These dredging operations will be carried out by the Water Injection Dredging method and will be conducted during ebb tides only by vessel “MAAS”. The area to be dredged comprises the Oikos No. 1 Jetty berth box as well as the rear, clearance channel and the approach / transit area to the berth. The dredging is expected to be completed within 7 days of commencement. Requirements to proceed with caution or at slow speed will be made in accordance with the procedures set out in the Port of London Authority’s Port Information Guide, under ‘London VTS’, ‘Section 4’ with the International Code Flags ‘Romeo Yankee’ displayed.
2. River Thames - Sea Reach - Scour Mattress Operations and Partial Opening of London Gateway Berth 4f - on or around 1st November 2024 London Gateway Port will officially open the western 230 metres of the new Berth 4, while scour mattress operations will continue on the eastern 200 metres. The vessels involved in the scour operations are as follows:
GPS Battler; GPS Arcadi; Osprey Bouwer Barge; GPS 601 Barge; NP 639 Barge
Scour protection works will be carried out within the designated area shown in red on the chartlet, marking the footprint of the scour mattress operations. During these operations, vessels will begin berthing at the western end of the berth. All vessels excluding vessels undertaking ship towage operations are required to maintain a 75-metre exclusion zone from vessels either berthing or unberthing at Berth 3 or the western end of Berth 4, as well as from barges and fixed structures. Additionally, a 100-metre exclusion zone for all vessels including those undertaking ship towage operations, must be observed from divers in the water. Diving Operations will be taking place 24 hours per day. When diving is taking place, vessels engaged in diving operations will display the following in accordance with Byelaw 33:
By day, International Code Flags ‘Romeo Yankee (RY)’, ‘Alpha (A)’ and a red flag near the diver’s point of entry into the water
By night, illuminated rigid replicas of the International Code Flags ‘Romeo Yankee (RY)’ and ‘Alpha (A)’
All participating vessels, including dive teams, will maintain a listening watch to London VTS on VHF Channel 68 and will remain in direct contact with the London Gateway Harbour Master and shift managers. Mariners are urged to exercise caution and remain vigilant while navigating in the vicinity of London Gateway. For further information, please contact London VTS at 01474 562215.
3. River Medway – Chatham Reach – Euro Wharf - Quay Wall Replacement Work - a programme of work to replace the existing and degrading quay wall at Euro Wharf will be commencing soon. Work to replace the sheet piled berth face is due to commence on or around 4th November 2024 with completion expected in February 2026. Work will be carried out in two phases and will predominantly be completed from behind the existing berth edge where a new quay wall will be constructed before removal of the existing sheet piling. Whilst works are underway, contractors will be working on the quay edge and on the waterline towards the final stages of construction. All vessels are requested to pass Euro Wharf with caution, minimise their wash when required, be aware of safety craft operating along the berth edge and monitor VHF Ch.74 at all times.
4. MEDWAY APPROACH CHANNEL - Dredging Operations - dredging operations are due to take place in the Medway Approach Channel, dredging works will be focussed around the area highlighted on the chart below. Dredging is due to commence on or around 06.11.2024 and will comprise of two stages. The TSHD “Vox Apolonia” will commence dredging on or around 06.11.2024 and will dredge over a number of tides with completion expected within 3.5 – 4 days. An intermediate survey will then be carried which will reveal any high spots left from the initial dredge operation. The WID “Maas” is then due to mobilise to site on or around 14.11.2024 to carry out a levelling off campaign with completion expected by 23.11.2024, approximately. “Vox Apolonia” and “Maas” will display the required signals for respective operations by day and night, all vessels transiting the Medway Approach Channel are requested to navigate with caution, maintain a listening watch on VHF Ch.74 and reduce speed and wash if requested to do so.
5. Sizewell C - Aid to Navigation Casualty - following a recent inspection by the Harbour Master, it is reported that the Sizewell B Intake Tunnel aid to navigation is unlit. The beacon is positioned at: Latitude: 052 o 12.912 N Longitude: 001 o 37.600 E. This defect has been reported to Trinity House via the Local Aids to navigation Reporting System (LARS). EDF, the owner of the AtoN, has also been notified. Once inspected and maintained correctly, an updated local Notice to Mariners will be issued.
6. London Array Wind Farm - Jack Up Operations (Ziton Wind) - has concluded and the vessel has departed.
7. Dover Harbour - Principal Inspections Eastern entrance, Eastern Arm, and South Jetty - structural surveys are to be undertaken of the Eastern arm (including in the entrance) and of the South Jetty to the provisional timetable. On the 29th from 1445-1745 the Eastern entrance will be closed to all shipping (except cargo vessels which cannot safely use the Western entrance) to facilitate dive inspection of the end of the arm. This inspection may be cancelled at short notice should the following criteria be exceeded: Tidal stream is greater than or equal to 1 knot; Wave height exceeds 1 metre; Wind speeds exceed 20 knots.
