You've just won a tidy sum on the lottery.

You are thinking of buying a boat, around 50' (+/- 5'), so no pro crew required.

You are considering something like an Oyster.

What other boats would be on your potential shopping list?

Does Camelot normally specify what sort of boat I'm allowed to buy when I win the Lottery?

I wondered the same thing and then decided I wouldn't change. I couldn't stand the idea of paid crew so that limits me to what I and SWMBO can handle in our 60s. And thats not much more than 36 foot. I certainly wouldnt want to try a 50 footer.

I suppose I could swap SWMBO for a couple os strapping 20 year old blondes but then I'd probably have even less strength to operate the boat myself. And a lot less money to buy it with.

The Oyster 45 would be manageable for a couple of your age & a reasonably quick boat

persoanlly i'm happy with what i've got.... but if i had to go 10% better i'd buy a sweden yacht 42 ( Oh but they went bust !) or a swan....

That's a pretty thing! ... I've always fancied the big Hans Christian myself ... built for comfort rather than speed but I'm done with tear-assing around the ocean as fast as I can ... prefer to potter!

If I had to buy a margarine pot that's the one I'd choose in a blow!

One of those yacht transport freighters cum dry dock would be nice, I s'pose..

And a natty dayboat like a Tofinou just for lazy pottering up creeks

And then there's the question of the broken legs :D

If the tidy sum were really unlimited then the following might constitute a short list :

Criteria :

The biggest boat easily handled by a couple.
Reliable labour saving devices.
Weather protection at helm.
Mixture of double beds and sea berths.
Long range : Watermaking, refrigeration, washing/drying facilities, long range diesel tanks
Comfortable saloon with toys - TV, video, computer etc
