Artemisia - new build thread for a Prestige 680

I was at the dinner Mark and it was good fun. Beneteau group table won three prizes. 680 had tough competition in the form of princess 68, so good going.
It was nice also to see English harbour yachts win with their 29 and Boats.co.uk win the customer service award

Looking forward to seeing the boat at LIBS on Thursday.

as soon as you go in book your appointment to be sure to get on board- it was mad busy on Saturday.

Here is a thing a chap before me went down into the engine bay and I followed down- he disappeared through the door into a lower cabin and returned on deck looking down on me coming up the steps. I didn't see another exit from below!!

hmmm … bizarre...not sure what happened there! Cant think how he/you ended up in that situation. Maybe he had a twin, or you maybe you spent too much time in the bar beforehand! :biggrin-new::very_drunk:

I'm a big fan of stainless steel !, and long enough !….so yes my advice: 130...150m steenless steel chain !

Thank you Bart.

Anybody got any recommendations of a good european stockist for stainless steel chain? And indeed the likely cost?

The boat is normally fitted with 100m of chain and hitherto I have never anchored in depths close to shore of much more than 20m, and predominantly in daytime, when I have usually let out scope of 3-4 times that.

Just imho I think 100m is fine, especially if it is 12mm chain rather than 10mm. I have 100m of 12mm and have never found it a problem in practice. I've never wanted to anchor in >30m ever, when cruising in the Med, nor I have wanted more when berthing on anchor (Portofino and sometimes Monaco are the only cases I recall for berthing with an anchor, in relation to 23-25m berths, such is the prevalence now of ground lines. I know there are plenty in Croatia of course)

In Portofino you might be quite unpopular with 120m of chain out.

Incidentally, I'm feeling mildly disillusioned that no-one has asked me why I suggested Lomi might be a potential "Yorkshire" name for Mark's next boat. Possibly a one word post got lost in the heated discussion about genset capacity. Possibly no-one cares... Mark will know, tho'

Thanx John, the boat is actually generously specced with 14mm galvanised. So another question, is it worth trading up from 12mm to 14mm stainless steel too?

Is 100m of 14mm chain and a 60 kg Ultra anchor the standard set up on this boat? It sounds like it has been up-specced by whoever placed the order. If it is standard spec then top marks to Jeanneau.

Mmm... I'm not sure I'd rate a 14mm chain as a plus, on this size/type of boat.
I'd rather call it an overkill, with the only result of adding weight with no reason, for any given length.

Crikey 14mm is good! Definitely 100m. S/s is a very nice luxury - it flows like cream in the anchor locker as you haul it in. Very nice, but not 100% necessary of course. And whether it is worth the £2k is debatable of course, but you are buying a mini superyacht so no pressure!

Well I didn't get what Yorkshire has to see with that, but why Lomi is pretty obvious, 'innit? :)

Yorkshire =Scottish but with the generosity gene removed (I'm allowed to say that, being born in Leeds :D). Lomi has 4 letters, so a fraction of the €€€ cost of Gentileschi or Artemisia, and hence loved by Yorkshiremen

It's normal for the six or so big boat berths, such is the wavy-ness of the place. Very common to see the anchor dropped at the port entrance and then loads and loads of chain laid down, such is the swell on those berths

LOL, got it. :D :D

You obviously must disagree with my comment on 14mm, you posted twice to say that it's good... :)
Forum glitch caused the double post.:encouragement:
On reflection, I gotta say I agree with you. It is overkill, and the weight delta between 100m of 14 vs 12mm is 140kg, sheesh. On a boat of this sea that's a lot of inertia at the extreme end. Wonder if it is a cheeky/cheap Bene fix to fix the trim, if they were unhappy on initial seatrials?

I hadn't realised there was even that much space. But I guess they do get big boats.

Absolutely. I can't imagine anyone on here not having studied the signature on Artemisia's best known painting in the Uffizi. :D

I would never call any boat of mine Lomi. I loved using the name Gentileschi and Artemisia is even more beautiful and hopefully with so many years ahead of enjoyment on my 680, any future names are not worth considering at this point.

The 14mm galvanised chain is standard with a stainless steel regular delta anchor. I have upgraded to the stainless steel Ultra with swivel. Looks like 12mm stainless steel chain (from the Canadian company Titan) is the largest size I can get anyway.
