Now I have sailed since I was 4, so most of my life; I sailed to the UK from South Africa and have covered many thousands of miles under sail in Indian ocean Atlantic and Pacific.

I choose to own and run a mobo for various reasons, speed and time primarily..

Why oh why then is it then, that I find so many raggies in the UK, (yes mainly the UK) arrogant, rude, inconsiderate and with the belief that they are gods chosen few!

You know the type; cast disdain on anything other than a sail boat as if they have a divine RIGHT to be on the water, in the showers first, through the gate first, at the hose first.....sullen and unable to communicate... at the best a grunt for good morning!.. What is it?

Why this animosity towards mobos? is it a lack of understanding? or are some raggies just intolerant, ignorant and rude?

Did you ever hear of a guy by the name of Pat Cullen he had a boat called the Sandefjord sailed out of Durbs? and in answer to your question it is because they are tight it is called in psycological terms Anal.

IMHO if you thing the behaviour of the average ragie is bad, you should pray hard you dont come across gods gift to the racing yachty. This is the breeding ground for the attitudes you report (and I deplore) There is no excuse for this behaviour. I go sailing to enjoy myself, and to meet new people of like minded attitude. I dont want to be ina hurry, and be looking at my watch, I do want to meet other folks and share a glass or two of red grape juice.

This subject keeps coming up over and over again, and it always boils down to a general agreement that it works both ways. There are equal proportions of arrogant yachties and motor boaters, because both communities are made up of a wide range of human beings. So this thread runs the risk of becoming yet another antagonistic spat which goes nowhere, made worse by the fact that it has been posted on both forums.

Count me out. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Re: What did you do to upset them?

What nothing. Are you sure?

Sailing people are arrogant and sailing people aren't arrogant and just to confuse you further the same people are both arrogant and not arrogant. This formula works for MoBo owners, racing yotties and people who own whippets.

People are people and they are as the mood takes them.

Now me I'm so arrogant that people I sail past don't even now it. If I showed them how arrogant I was it would mean communicating with ordinary people. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Can't say that I have noticed that as a norm where I sail.

Errm... Which UK area did you say you sailed in?

Have you thought that perhaps your post might be thought a little arrogant too?
Perhaps if you smiled at the people you see thay might respond better!
The biggest problem I see these days is that people assume everyone else has bad manners and behave rudely themselves in anticipation of being treated badly.(Vicious circle) Frankly on the water, especially in the confined waters of places like the Solent it's usually the inconsiderate behaviour of low life louts in overpowered Gin Palaces that is the catalyst for the majority of the Mobo/Raggie divide. When you add that to the overbearing OK-YA yellow wellied brigade in racing yachts you have oil and water.... The majority of sailing and Mobo owners are still pretty good though and stirring up prejudice by tarring everyone with the same brush only polarises the arguments and gets everyone steamed up. Instead of complaining try to set a good example and perhaps others will follow.......

For heavens sake, Derf!

I've been messing about in boats since I was an infant, and have had very few problems either with Mobos or raggies. OTOH, I have a sailing friend who seems to claim to be carved up every time he goes out.

Have you wondered if this could be something to do with you? Chill out!

I wave at mobos all the time 50% wave back. I'm happy to park next to them, even met a bunch in Bembridge who are responsible for the most God awful hangover.
I know the type of yaughties being refered to here, we all do, please please don't tar us all with the same pink trousers and brush.. I don't even mind the wash.

If it floats it is fun, sail or engine.

I find that dickheads come from all walks of life .Being a prat is open to all regardless of gender ,age ,race ,motor/sail.

your post proves it really.

anyone who has been here for a bit, must consider this a troll, given it's in both forums.

I'm trying to be a bit lenient and consider he hasn't been around for a while (he has), hasn't bothered to search for previous posts, and can be considered to be generally a bit dull in the mentality stakes
