Around Cape Horn-- Classic Irving Johnson Film

Beyond the obvious (footage that will never be taken again), there are two things about the film I admire.

First, the narratiion is unique in that it is the end product of decades of presentations by Johnson (at major and minor venues). He really was dedicated to sharing his love of sailing and the sea.

Second, I really like the opening scenes of him "preparing on the farm." My father was about his age, and grew up on a farm in the 1920s. I'm certain he did similar things "preparing" to be a pilot.

I was given a book for Christmas, 'The Way of a Ship' by Derek Lundy about a four masted baque that leaves Liverpool bound for the Cape and beyond (currrently tacking down the Irish Sea), so this awesome film fits nicely into where my soul is at this time.

Looking forward to a wind over tide down the Wallet. Well maybe?
