Are you med guys happy

Do you really want a German jab after the balls up they have made.

Oh dear .... is that the most constructive thing you have to say? ? ? ? ..... I'm fine thanks, sitting in lockdown, working from home and waiting for this to play out. Not too upset with the way Söder has handled it all.

No. But as non live aboards it only marginally affects us at the moment.
in addition I have friends who have just this week completed the sale of their boat. They had planned to spend the next 5 years or more living aboard, as they have done for the past 7 years or so. But the 90/180 day just wouldn’t work for them. I have another good friend who is in the same position and now plans to bring the boat back to the UK.
For both of them the VAT implications have also played a large part in their decisions.

I know that this was supposed to be about Spain but if I may include Portugal where unlike Spain the English have always been seen as friends I can paint a more optimistic picture. In the first place to obtain residence you do not need to own a property but only furnish an address, for which quite a few use their boat and a marina contract so for those who are mainly liveaboarders there is no change. For the seriously wealthy there is a Golden scheme which does require the owning of a property but gives considerable tax advantages.

Well I’m an Italian resident (house, family and business here for 30 years) and flying back to Milan from Dubai this week, they didnt want to let me back on the plane as ‘no Italian resident certificate’ (I have applied for one but with a 3 month waiting list at the local immigration office that didn’t help). Managed, with extreme difficulty, to talk my way through it but it was a very close call. So not happy. Naively, and through habit, joined the quicker EU queue at passport control in Italy and got told to join the “others” queue. So doubly not happy.

Also tried today to get a quote from Admiral today for a likely future new boat purchase and got the reply:

In view of the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the ability of UK insurance providers to service EU/EEA policyholders following Brexit, we are currently not quoting or providing new policies to EU/EEA residents.
We appreciate your interest in Admiral and are sorry that we cannot assist at this time.

o, even though from a business point of view I have profited from new clients exiting the UK to invest in the EU, to reply to the OP’s question - not happy, not happy, not happy.

It appears you'll loose a lot more than a few beer tokens by moving Roy. I may not be the ideal cruising BFF but at least I'm relatively cheap. ?
