Are there still cheap moorings on the east coast?

Actually I posted that tart reply because you arent interested in the east coast except to place your hulk because you have fallen on hard times.
Go to anywhere else or sell the boat.
We happen to love our sailing area, and dont need people who think its a bargain compared to the idiotic cash fuelled south coast.

One of the charms of the East Coast is the traditional welcome from other sailors - who presumably learned it from the welcome they themselves got when they first arrived !

That doesn't sound like you. Is there more to this than meets the eye, or have I missed some irony?

Unfortunately, many swinging moorings are now untenable because of an infection still raging, with no known cure.

It's been called SMD ( swinging mooring disease) . Part of the mooring strop being in the water at all times, attracts an unknown tic probably brought in by ships in Harwich due to water ballast. How it finds it's way into the boat is unknown.

Flu like symptoms and the runs are quite common.

It is believed that because the rising sun hits the East Coast first, it somehow awakens these normally dormant tics which is why nowhere else gets it.

REYC Medway, deep water swinger for £500 pa. Access a bit limited unless you join MYC and use their facilities which are excellent. Chances of joining MYC and getting a 38 ft mooring in your first year of membership are slim. Might be worth a call though. Don't be put off by the earlier 'suitable' comment, the place is always welcoming to visitors.

In my experience of looking for a suitable 36 ft mooring (2008), lots available for up to 30 ft boats, nothing for the bigger stuff.

i have contact numbers for REYC, PM if you need it.

Many thanks for the (mostly) helpful replies - we're not in a position to move right away but its a big help to know that there are options out there. For what it's worth the boat is currently in central London being used as a city crash pad, I couldn't afford to keep her in the Solent! And ive spent some happy time sailing in the Medway and outer estuary, and would definitely appreciate the chance to get to know the rest of the area better.

Cheers all

He's right. He took the last slot.
Send me a cheque for 300 quid and I will find you a mooring for under 2 grand.

Blimey, you blokes on the East Coast are being taken for a ride. Moorings here in The Solent for a lot less than that!

Ahem, you have to be a local, tho' (Smug local git emoticon)

moorings

Hi all

Does anyone know anywhere in suffolk or near to that I can moor a 50' barge-like boat I am thinking of converting into a live aboard? it needs to be dirt cheap and I am not averse to roughing it a bit. Loosing my job and house not long ago has propelled me into what I hope is a change of lifestyle for the better

Best regards

No-one has mentioned Pin Mill, the club have some moorings, but the majority are run by Kings's boatyard. They are good value, but for that reason there is close to 100% occupancy. However no harm in enquiring as you are looking ahead.

OP's boat is 38' LOA.
IIRC, Kings Yard has 37' limit for their moorings.
Could not het a mooring there when we applied for our previous boat, an Etap 38i.

Hi Martin, sorry to hear of the problems. Unfortunately that sort of mooring is very hard to find, unless the barge is self propelled then I doubt you will get lucky though there is a place on the Medway that has lots of live aboards. Not dirt cheap, nowhere is I'm afraid.

It will be incredibly difficult to find anywhere that can/will take live aboards down here on the Medway and as for cheap friend of mine is paying around 90pw for his mooring.
