Well, a bit more than a scratch - about a metre long and through the top coat, and primer and 3mm deep. It's a bit like someone running a key along your nice shiny car - most people would want to get it fixed and take it to the bodyshop. A boat has to be lifted to repair it. However, the offender reported the incident to the rowing club and I am in discussion with them and will wait until the winter lift-out before having it fixed to considerably reduce the cost.

Yes, he reported it within an hour of the incident - his oar caught the bow which made his boat swing round and score down the side, may have been the rowlock ? Anyway, it is sorted and as you say, full marks to the club and the rower.

Good , glad to hear it, and that you'll be able to get it sorted amicably.

Very responsible of the sculler and yes if his blade hit your bow then it would have turned his boat into yours and any part of the rigger could have made contact along your side with him still carrying momentum, and as many have metal as the most outboard component I can see how the damage occured.

Glad to hear of the swift progress though.
