Are Majoni fenders any good?

Hi all,

New member on here, and relatively new to boating, so your experience/advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking to replace some fenders and I like the size of the Majoni and Polyform, as they are not too long for a decent diameter.

The Majoni are half the price of the Polyform, what are peoples experiences with them? Especially given the recent bad weather!

Thanks

Fubar

Yes Majoni are fine, I have a few of them. But last season replaced all so they match and bought Vortex set of 6 off eBay, they have been good so far one year in. Worth a look to.

I have a Majoni fender that I kept from my first boat and is still in service .
Polyform fenders of similar age with the blue ends faded but have also lasted years.
Anchor are a good brand .

if you boat in non tidal waters ( ie. use locks) or frequently visit marinas or harbours where the mooring pontoons vary considerably in height above the water , longer fenders do have their advantages.

Appreciate all the feedback. Gives me confidence in the cheaper fenders, so I can spend money in other areas.

Erm, before you buy any fenders, regardless they are all made from the same material here, have the shop inflate them according to manufacturers initial inflation specs ( there is a procedure for this) and let them rest for 24 hours then check that they all still conform to specified size. I had a chandlery in tears when I bought 8 with fender basket and had to reject them 4 times as when correctly inflated they would deform slightly and no longer fit correctly into the fender basket (they were specifically designed for / came with) requiring them to be under inflated to fit. It seems they all lack this basic quality control. I wasnt buying cheap either. My boat is on a river mooring and needs good fenders that can take a pounding.

I bought boat fender Max 3006.7384 for a new 22' center control boat. They work great. I even left one for the whole summer attached to my ladder, and it was still in great condition when I got it back. It's not even soft.

I have a pair of majoni fenders and they‘re fine. They use a valve that isn’t standard so your pump may need an adaptor. They’re cheap and readily available.

Been using them for over a decade now on several boats. All still in good order. Really important to get the right size though. They can be deceiving as advertised, size wise. But not so bad if you have the dimensions given. The size one’s are tiny things, despite your head telling you that 18” in length sounds quite enough for a 18-20ft boats (like mine). Not sure what size your boat is though, but just what I’ve found. I use size 2 on my 19ft cuddy for general use and I think I have a size 3 for heavier use midships, should it be required. The size 2’s are only actually about 3 or 4” longer in size, but compared side by side to size ones…a huge difference in protection ability.
Any I’ve bought have been supplied with rope and inflated most recently. Few suppliers on eBay at a decent cost. Choice of colours too.

Last year I bought 2 Majoni fenders, inflated them when I got home and they were flat next day. I got them replaced but inflated by the chandlery. When I got home I dipped them into a tank of water and found that both showed a slow stream of bubbles from the valves.

Next day they were replaced again but from a new batch that had come in and they were fine. Most of my fenders are Majoni and I recognize that the occasional one, or batch, will not be up to standard. Just get them from a reliable source, who will replace if necessary.

I need buy extra fenders, which plan to hold in baskets on bow pulpit. Baskets are 43cm in length so Majoni with 63cm length (size 3) looks better and Force4 which is next to my boatyard has them plenty in case of problems. I have two old fenders from Anchor Marine (80cm). I know that look is less important then practicality, so which one should I choose, please?

Fitting the fender baskets would be important for me as long as they do the job. You know your boat and cruising ground so as long as you can set them at the right height to protect the boat from the pontoon/jetty I would have thought that 63cm is long enough.

Judicious use of a small number of relatively small fenders can provide the necessary protection although it is worth saying that diameter can be an important factor i.e. keeping the boat clear of any hazards. It isn’t uncommon to see people using lots of fenders to keep a straight length of hull clear of a straight pontoon when in reality a couple would do the job with a properly moored boat (perhaps with an extra one for redundancy).
