Are flares out of date?

Re: Disposing of unwanted flares

The oceans of the world manage to contain hundreds (thousands?) of entire ships which have sunk through war, weather or other causes. The green fanatics fail to understand the vastness of the sea.
Remember the hysteria over the oil rig which was to be sunk in the deep Atlantic (not in the North Sea as repeatedly reported by the BBC).

Tummy trouble

Was'nt there an incident acout 5 or 6 years ago in the Solent when during the course of some drunken celebrations a hooray Henry fired a maroon at another boat and it knocked (or burnt a hole) in someone's tummy .. or am I getting confused again ... years of mercury fillings ... nothing to do with alchohol abuse!

Re: Tummy trouble

Yes, it was more like 15 years back during fireworks night in Cowes week. Until this idiot killed somebody it was fair game to dispose of all your OOD flares by firing them off on the Friday night. Following years police launches and HM went round to every boat with leaflets warning of dire legal consequences if anyone set off flares. Shame really, it was fun and useful training.
