Are diesel engines worth the extra cost?

Not in Palma last week it was'nt. Just a few cents difference
 
The original quote sounds like something David Pascoe would say, though from an American perspective where petrol is freely available. He also admits that at over 35', diesel is the way to go (for both torque and economy issues).
 
I would have said that post-red, anything at or below about 25ft is going to be just as well off with a decent EFI petrol. Especially a VP one with the flushing attachment, although why is it that most petrols don't have closed cooling?

I really don't see that the latest D3 diesel is going to have a lifespan that is longer that a petrol, especially as it has a alu block, and very light. Which is good. But maybe not so clever after 15yrs sitting in a salty bilge. I'd expect the heavier D4/D6 to keep going somewhat longer, especially the de-tuned versions. Then again, given the choice, I too would go for the D4-300 or the D6-370!
