Are BYH feeling the pinch

Please accept my apologies for any offence taken, the post in question has already been modified and I completely agree that the language was somewhat short of what we would normally expect from this place. Thanks too for being adult enough to raise your objections also in a manner more suited to the spirit of the ECF.

Ever since the ECF started there has been a sort of unwritten code of conduct where if someone objects to something said by another, they either swiftly move on and say nothing, or raise the issue with the person making the comment. This recent outbreak of people quietly hitting the button is something we should be grown up enough not to use. If you have concerns then it's far more polite and gentlemanly to raise the issue and try to resolve it. However it does seem slightly ironic that some saw fit to hit the button when one poster used two letters, the first two being part of your user name. If BYH are good then people will say that, where they aren't I would like to be able to hear that too, which is how I work in business. If people have an issue with what I do then I would prefer them to say it quietly to my face and give me a chance to address that issue. If I don't then I would fully expect them to tell others about it. But not to go behind my back in doing it.

Now perhaps, ladies and gentlemen, we can get back to being the nicer forum we once were, and the drinks are on, erm, not me :D
 
I suggest it's time for everyone in this thread to read "S.O.D.'s Law of The Sea" written by Andrew Spedding and Bill Lucas, particularly the section related to large boatyards vs small boatyards...

I believe it's only available second hand

Oh .. You mean the PM from one of the self elected FORUM POLICE saying you are out of order :eek:

By the sound of it BJ4U is not the only one who objected to the language used in the two posts. As for your outburst can you explain where the unwritten code of conduct was in that. By the sound of it you have never had any work done at BYH so how can you comment about the staff and facilities except third hand.

Before you dig an even bigger hole for yourself don't you think it's about time you took some of your own advice ;)

we have had wind-up merchants here in the past & not always from Burnham ;)

some have short memory's
 
Calm Down gentlemen.

Have recently moved to BYH this winter having had experience of them a few years back. Must say much improved. Had a swinging mooring and came in last summer for some work to be done and I have got to say excellent job done at reasonable price. Very helpful this winter and have had no complaints.
 
I do not have much experience with marinas

I have recently purchased my first cruiser and have it at BYH and I have found them extremely friendly and approachable, with nothing being too much trouble.

I do note peoples bad experiences and hope that there are plently of good experiences from work carried out.
 
Contrast this with, for example, Foxs and Tollesbury. Start a thread on either of those and you will find some forumites who might have a moan about them, but loads of others will pile in with examples of fantastic work done at agreed prices. What's noticeable about this thread is the very small number of responses from people who have had actual work carried out and are pleased with it rather than just regular berth holders who have found them to be nice people. What surprises me is the defensive attitude of companies in these cases of social network based feedback. Good companies will pay thousands for feedback like this because happy customers will always return, yet it's the unhappy ones you most need to hear about otherwise they're out there, telling others how bad you are without telling you. BYH should come on and ask for specific details of problems, probably with replies by pm so names and details can be freely given and use the information to improve. Complaining to the moderator just makes them look like they've got something to hide.
 
I kept my first boat there for a season or two. They lifted it out of the water and put it back in when I asked them to and completed a gel coat repair which was apparently too difficult for the boatyard at Blackwater Marina to complete without any issues.

There is one well known Rast Coast yard that 'helpfully' lifted my boat out of the water three weeks early which was an unpleasent surprise when we arrived on the following Friday night. :eek:
