pay £7102.15 for 2 yrs up front & save £575.85

That is more that i pay now by over £200 a year

I suppose that up at Fox's you suffolk boys pay that kind of money for a fore n aft though...........Unlucky

Anyway, this should explain my sentiments.

Whatever it was I needed to get Guapa hauled out. At Burnham Yacht Harbour this is easier said than done, but I was hesitant to go elsewhere in case I did more damage just getting there.

A haul out was arranged for what was the windiest day that month, and I had to motor Guapa in stern first. If there's one thing she does not like it's motoring in reverse. Needs must I suppose. So with Evita's help I got her where she should be. Lift out followed. Several "experts" looking her over. Good news and bad news. Good news: the prop, the shaft and the P-bracket were all OK though you could see where we had caught the mooring buoy. The bad news: the cutlass bearing was shot and they yard did not have a replacement in stock. She would have to go on the hard whilst they waited for the part. How much was all of this going to cost me? Between £300 and £500. This would take a hefty bite out of our summer cruising kitty, but I could just live with it.

Two weeks later the yard reported "All fixed" and they would launch that afternoon. Hold your horses, mate - I want to inspect what you've done before you launch. Next day Evita was "off sick" from school and I had a family emergency. I had a sick daughter to look after.
The boat looked fine; the yard seemed to have done a good job. The manager kept stressing that it had been a tough job to get the old bearing out. I was soon to find out why. The bill £1,200 - what happened to £300-500? Ah well, that was just the labour - it didn't included the haul out, the cradle, the extra hours they "needed" to remove the old cutlass bearing, and of course - VAT. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how £300-500 turns into £1,200.
Rip-off Britain is alive and kicking and lives in Burnham Yacht Harbour.

That sounds just like my £150 quote for replacing a cap shroud. Final bill was IIRC £320. "Oh the £150 didn't included the parts or VAT"

Crossed them off my list of yards to use.

Next rigging job was a Foxs. A written quote, job done very promptly, bill same as quote. Not difficult is it?
