Are Brits prudes!

Jordanbasset, thank you for making me laugh tons! Echo that, please don't bend down! But they do, then they stretch, then they scratch and all before I've finished my first cup of tea....
Willies at dawn, oh dear, never Adonis looks a likes are they?

The big question is, whatever the nationality, why are the nudists never the ones you'd like to see naked? They're always people who have no reason to be so proud of their figures.

Certainly not the two ladies who got out of the hotel swimming pool that I use and promptly unsuited at the side of the pool, dried off and got dressed.

In some bays in Croatia it seems that everyone is starkers apart from us Brits.

Occasionally, the young lady on the next boat is worthy of further attention but that is not usually the case. SWMBO reckons that I'm a dirty old man but, hey, less of the old, please! :D

If you are concerned about prudery, be glad you are British. Most people in the US have an aversion to nudity that borders on mental illness.

Personally, I've tried sailing nude, and quickly got bored with it. Skinny dipping is another matter. I tried it when I was young, and immediately realized that swimsuits make no sense. Perhaps a few isolated beaches should be set aside for those who can't deal with nudity. Everywhere else, people should be free to choose what bathing costume to wear, or not wear.

Not sure where you are now Nostro, last I knew for sure you were still stuck in Almerigrad. When you get to the islands, Espalmador! do the mud pool (along the beach to the left and follow the path inland), it stinks and so will you but you will find out why there are so many grey people walking back along the beach

Announcing that you're going skinny dipping late at night is brilliant as the kids if visiting (aged 18 and above) are traumatised and lock themselves in their cabins, never a bad thing!

Aah, Fomenter - land of naked meerkats. That clay really sticks in your toenails.. Almost makes Almerigrad look cosmopolitan.

Sunny Balearics at anchor, fat naked men at dawn - proof that summer is here :)

I'm surprised you have to ask why we Brits are not in the habit of stripping off....

... after the coldest bl+++y spring in 50 years!

I reckon there's about two days a year on average when its warm enough in the channel to get down to shirt sleeves even.

A friend of mine was anchored in Emsworth Channel when early in the morning he saw a seal close by, so instinctively climbed down the sern ladder to swim with it, starkers; then he thought ' hang on, these things can bite a fish in half ' and was out of the water like a Polaris missile !

We as a nation not used to naked bodies, despite inroads made by the internet in showing everything to anybody, but also slightly inhibited.

Swimming, especially in the med where the salt content is high is further hampered with the salty, sticky contact with swimming trunks/costumes until dry, and then they itch. I thus don't see a problem with skinny dipping, the exposure is limited to hopefully brief moments entering and leaving the water, but returning to nice dry clothing is also enjoyable. Skinny wobbling and prancing about however is not advisable for all the reasons given above.
IMHO

Having sailed extensively in Scandinavia, where it is very common, and confirmed this a bit more locally at Studland I totally agree; sadly, it is mainly confined to the older generation and more male than female.

Apart from not wishing to shock flying fish. the biggest reason in my mind to cover the tackle is that I would not like to try to sit down on an exposed part of the deck in a really hot climate without some form of insulation between my skin and a rather hot surface.

How do you like your eggs.. fried, boiled or poached?

So, are the Brits prudes?

Some are, some aren't. I'm more comfortable in shorts, with bare feet to be honest, but have no qualms about getting naked. Very, very rarely warm enough in blighty though... also illegal I think. Sailing down the Crouch naked and passing a fleet of oppies might land one on a particular list.

UK - only sailed naked once on the west coast, on a very hot day with a crew of 20-somethings. We all knew each other well, so no drama.

Med - only wear clothes in harbour. SWMBO likewise. Only issue with it is the Greek fishermen that divert for the sole purpose of having an ogle at SWMBO (at least, I assume it's her they're ogling....). It's a bit sleazy. Particularly when the get the binos out.

Sailing in the Med a few years ago a cruise ship went by with a lot of old dears waving their hankies. The guys on the boat next to us waved back with their swimming trunks.
