I know that Ardrossan is not exactly the Monaco of the north,

Well, if you want to gamble, there are two bookies right outside the marina.

And never mind the new drink legislation, the Harbour bar opens at 0800, and is equidistant (about 100 feet) from said turf accountants.

Am I making this sound more attractive? Or not?

If your thinking of Ardrossan how about Troon. A great friendly marina with all the facilities you would require and pricewise on a par with Ardrossan. Far better shelter than Ardrossan and with its outer harbour you can sail in and drop your sails within its shelter.Sister marina is at Largs and a voucher scheme runs to allow a certain amount of free berthing there. Not as conveniant for short day trip but Arran only 15 miles away. My favourite day sail to Lamlash (3 hours) couple of pints ashore and nice walk around Holy Isle then sail back to Troon, in all a very nice day out.

PM me if you want more info.

Good luck

Paul.

Not now, owned by Dalhi LLama Monks and they welcome you ashore, have even built a monestry and a "Holiday Inn" style building there where you can take a Band B to meditate. A ferry runs every 30 mins from Lamlash. A great climb to the top of Mullach Mhor its hieghst point with tremendous views. A supper anchorage in East winds when Lamlash out of order,

Ardrossan do very good deals for 6 months winter ashore. inc lift out/in, cradle hire and jetwash. you may want to consider summer berthing at largs then winter ashore at Ardrossan. It will work out cheaper than Largs when you add up full year bearthing and lift out/in and mast removal, (it is req at Largs if you don't have your own cradle) As others have said the staff at Ardrossan are very friendly and helpful.

Upgrade of A77 to M77 seems to be nearing completion, improving access to Ardrossan and Troon from Glasgow.

Not sure if Largs YH still offer 6 months summer berthing contracts. I think they discontinued this recently, preferring to concentrate on those wishing permanent berths.
