Prompted by @Bouba post with him not knowing where his boat is being taken.
I thought I’d share my experience with an Apple Tag (£25)
I put one inside a boat cupboard about 3 months ago.
They work apparently by linking to passing iphone users and through them send a location.
My boat is about 40 meters away from a public walkway (in Spain) which I thought may be too far to make a link but as you see from the pic it continues to work well.

I’ve been reading about these….apparently stalkers have been sneakily secreting these on women they bump into and then following them home ?

Apparently Apple are aware of this and there is some sort of alert available if a tag is put near to your tag (so you have to buy a tag to protect yourself from tags….well done Apple!!)

It doesn’t work like that. You don’t need to buy a tag in order to detect another. Apple phones will warn you if you are in proximity to a tag which isn’t registered to your account, in order to avoid them being used in that way. There is an app you can install on android phones that serves the same function.

I believe the tag actually has to follow you (for example if someone has hidden one in your car).

Yes, I should have said it has to be in continuous proximity to you. I don't know how long it takes before it alerts you, but once it does you can make the tag beep and the phone will show you where it is. The most recent iphones allow you to locate it to very small distances - it's quite clever technology: Example.

Compared to a lot of boats you have quite a quick access to the sea....a person like me could get lost in that marina
We rented a house some years back on the outskirts when we had a smaller boat and it took half an hour to get to the sea …… only to find sometimes it was too choppy to go out.
The canals do give great protection from sea conditions though.

whats the speed limit in the marina ? 5 knots?

The catch is there are bridges so if you have a permanent arch then you won’t get under. My bit of the marina is after the bridges with more expensive apartments.
yes, just checked air draft is 2.8m, so quite restrictive - even my axopar is 15 cm too tall for that, but I think that bit of the boat is removable.

Sorry for the thread drift - all academic for me, but still interesting.

Got me looking at apartment prices now
How about this on the right side of the bridges
For sale Empuriabrava: Private mooring of 18 meters
woops just realised it’s mooring only

So I recently bought a boat in Mallorca and I cruised it around the island and over to Barcelona to get it lifted for transport. Having read this post I decided to put an AirTag onboard to track the trip home. So my boat is currently on the road from Villanova to Bilbao to catch the ferry. It was loaded this morning by Coast2Coast.
While the AirTag isn’t a constant feed it does get regular pings from Apple devices. The last ping was 11 minutes ago between Cervera and Tarrega.
For the money it’s a great bit of kit. Think I’ll get one for my rib and tender. 76F02582-74FB-4E35-9FB5-9A10D9C74594.jpeg76F02582-74FB-4E35-9FB5-9A10D9C74594.jpeg
