Apostasy

anyone who has excelled in one field and then is held to be to be an expert in anything else they suddenly adopt.....usually comes with new-found celebrity status.

To be fair, some of those threads do start whilst the subject is still warm. If not still struggling to stay afloat

Your signature line caught me off my guard. "Hey!" I thought, "I've arrived - years of toil on Scuttlebutt have at last earned me a five-star put-down." But before I had sent off for a "Producer of offensive and gratuitous drivel" T-shirt I realised that "you" didn't mean me, but, er, you, no I mean . . . Oh, heck! I give up.

But to get back to your point - yes, it is fair. My earlier post was like this one, gratuitous drivel.

She used to push me on my swing in Malaya when I was 5!

Please tell me she looked like this!

That hasn't constrained them increasing their fees. I wonder if that's in response to the free-fall in numbers doing Shorebased courses...

:)

Anecdotal/circumstancial evidence: Carol and Bob at Performance Yachting used to have a nice RYA-cert training school in Plymouth, with their own boats. Last year they decided to sell their boats, apparently because the bottom is dropping out of the UK-training market. Bob told me that people are using cheap flights to got and get their training in warmer-weather places like Greece and Turkey.

Fine. But that's not apostasy.
I was thinking of the context of Iran, the place where people are put to death for apostasy. In that case, everyone is assumed to be brought up as a Muslim and anyone who turns against that is in danger of hanging. I was drawing a parallel between that and the persecution of Ellen-sceptics on here.

I really can't be bothered with dictionary pedantry. That wasn't what the thread was about.

Thankyou Freestyle. I'll try and work that out when I get time! :)
In Photobucket it can be hard to see the various options for tagging image URLs. Move your mouse around under the image until you see a list, and click on the one with [square-bracketed] IMG tags on either side of the URL. That copies it to "clipboard". Then just paste it in to your message.
