Imagine how fast it would go if they made it a one trick pony, chopped the mast off at that level, got rid of the genoa that's only windage furled, pulled out the engine etc.

I'd really hate having one of the lifting foils suddenly drive into a patch of spume or otherwise aerated water, e.g. a mobo wake. The loss of upthrust at 45kts could make the water feel very hard.
I did this on a Red Funnel Hydrofoil once on the way over to Cowes. The whole boat came to a very sudden halt with green water over the cabin windows and the turbo charged diesels reduced from 45oo rpm to about 800 as the props stallled because of the sudden reduction in water flow.
What kind of directional control does it have, anyway ?

Ohh, with that sort of speed you could almost get me to convert. They didn't look very comfortable or dry though - I would imagine one would almost certainly spill ones gin and tonic.
