I wondered what your experience with it was.

Was it worth fitting?

Does it use alot of amps?

Does it need much maintenance, cleaning , bulb changing etc?

We make a control panel for a company that supplies filtration and pump panels for dust suppression. The UV lamp is designed to kill most bacteria and is especially required if you are going to be spraying water in a public place to avoid legionaires and e coli outbreaks.

It is used in conjunction with two other inline filters that take out solids of different sizes and a water softener..

The brand we use is UV Max made by Viqua a Trojan Technologies company operates on 100-240 volts and draws 1.2Amps

Not strictly marine application but my UV light for the pond renders a murky green soup to crystal clear in about 2 days so the principle is sound.
 
Needs to be UVC and in a well made unit. complex calculation about how powerful the lamp is versus the desired flow rate to secure acceptable purification. And the hours run by the lamp.

Will need particle filters to remove 'lumps'

Several varieties of in tank chemicals and in line filters that do the necessary with a lot less hassle.
 
UV is used commercially to purify water, along with ozonation and chlorination. Problem is that it doesn't have any long term effect; it kills the bugs that are there but doesn't stop more developing. Fine for a water supply that will be used shortly after purification; not fine for water that must be stored. Ozonation (not applicable on a boat) and chlorination (what most of us use; Milton or purification tablets) have a persistent effect.

Using UV alone requires high intensities, which require careful shielding and quite a lot of power. It is not suitable for amateur installation except in the case of a "black box" module. You don't want to get the shielding wrong, as UV light at the intensities required causes burns, cataracts, blindness and is carcinogenic!

There are ways and means of increasing the efficiency of UV as a purification technique, but they are at the research stages (my wife has done research on it).
