Anyone sailed Lake Michigan?

Asking for a friend, as they say. A move to Chicago is on his horizon. a 25-30 footer might be within his grasp. Is it any fun, is it worth it?

Get a good reefing system ….. for “the Windy City”?

Sorry, sailed Lake Superior but not Michigan. From a small scale chart the coastline looks pretty linear (ie exposed) until reach the islands in the North - 250-300nm away?

The mid west… Ted Wells attributed his high wind excellence to living in Kansas. Chicago being at the bottom, hopefully you can find a windward shore in every wind direction except north.

Sailed out of Waukegan near Chicago across to Harbor Springs then through the Mackinaw strait into Lake Huron.
The lake is big, 250 miles long and 250 metres deep. 1000's of boats.
Non tidal, fresh water.
