Full ones seem likely to be unobtainable for the foreseeable future so is anyone filling them from larger bottles?

I know some say that this is more dangerous than a hydrogen bomb but most of Southern Europe does it safely.

Has anyone got the right kit?

I did it a lot with transferring nitrous oxide to the much smaller bottle on my bike. Google will show you the kit and bes.co.uk will sell you the necessary bits, but no one salles a kot in the uk.

I didn't know that there was a kit.
I know of people who do fill their own bottles from a large donor one, and the fittings are relevant bottle connectors and some suitable 'gas' hose. The other thing is to make sure that the bottle isn't overfilled. Some do it by weighing and others have mentioned on this forum about floating the bottle in water; though I'm not sure about the finer details with this method. Thee have been posts in the past in the PBO section I believe.

If you have access to a full bottle I would suggest floating it and noting the waterline so the you can just shut the tap off when your empty reaches that level and not have it over filled, saves all the stopping and starting with weighing.
I would guess if someone sold the bits as a kit they would be impliying it's safe and taking on a load of responsibility for you methods, I'n certain it can be done perfectly safely but there's a lot of idiots around that could blow them selves up at the drop of a hat, and every village needs it's idiot.

Your supposed to fill it not sniff it. Judging by the subtitles in the you tube clip towards the end someone has been getting high on LPG had to laugh reading them. made no sense what so ever as the clip went on.

I hadn't watched it before seeing this post, but a) I see what you mean! and b) it assumes a supply cylinder that is designed to fill consumer cylinders. I presume, for example, that the outlet valve on the supply cylinder is connected to a dip tube to the bottom of the cylinder, which wouldn't be the case in a consumer-type bottle. I have never tried it, but most threads on here about this process state that the supply cylinder has to be inverted to ensure that it is liquid being transferred to the receiving cylinder. I note also that I think that the cylinder fill indicator in the video may be an Australian thing; I've never seen anyone refer to it in a European context; everyone states that you either have the receiving cylinder on a set of scales and fill to the appropriate weight, or float it in a bucket of water and stop when it sinks!

I have NEVER tried this, and there are some people on these fora who state that it is an extremely hazardous procedure - and others who reckon it just needs care and is done on a daily basis in other parts of the world! But as the video makes clear, you do need to take precautions against static and other ignition sources, as well as against the chill of any escaping gas.

For the OP, I'd suggest scouring the Reader-to-Reader forum; there are many threads on this topic, with chapter and verse about the equipment required. I understand that GasLow is your friend!

Or do as we did and convert to using the Camping Gaz cylinders 907 with a simple adapter with valve that has the calor threaded outlet . apparently no problems getting refills for Gaz which are filled at same depot with same gas as calor anyway. Gaz cylinders are readily exchangeable outside of UK too. OK the 907 is smaller capacity but at least fits in similar sized lockers .

We are marina based live aboards with shorepower and pending the above mentioned gaz conversion used a plug in table top infra red hob as a temporary / backup solution which is still in use several months later with our gas locker now fully stocked for away days without resorting to1650700280059.png running our generator.
