Stainless bracket that looks like it would fit across the screwed rod the dark things are screwed on to. Not quite sure what they do either!

Hold the anchor down in place during voyages, assuming that the galvanised steel bit is an anchor?
Thanks. It is an anchor. If it was in place the anchor shank would be held lower than the winch wants it to sit and the flukes wouldn't sit on the rubber buffer things. Worth sitting it in place to see how the anchor sits though.

When operating the anchr winch the link should be swung clear which would allow the chain and anchor to operate in the best position to suite thee] layour. The anchor is clamped down once it is housedin the locked position the flukes should be well clear of the bow.

You have the anchor sitting on top of the locking link?

Thanks. I haven't had a boat with this level of technology before! If you look at the right side of the picture you will see the fluke against the buffer which locates it clear of the bow. I will see what it looks like if I put the bit above the anchor next time I am at the boat.
Other strange thing is there appears to be a link on the side of the winch that would engage in grooves in the gypsy (?) except the grooves are on the outside rather than inside. Presumably the gypsy is on the wrong way round but I can't see why it would be fitted that way.

Are the gypsy for the chain and the rope drum switched around. Mine has a ratchet lever which engages with slots in the chain gypsy and locks it.

Thanks. I don't think they are swapped sides, the lever is on the same side as the gypsy. What I am concerned about is it has been turned round for a reason such as wear, I suppose I need to take it off and look. The winch instructions say to wash the clutch in water and grease on re assembly. How will water wash off anything that has been greased?
