Anyone in Gouvia inquired about the new tax?

So, have any of you who are permanently based at Gouvia found out what's going on with this new tax? Technically, it comes in tomorrow. Are we expected to pay up asap? Who are we meant to pay? Do we wait for a bill to pay?

Essentially, this new tax has come in, but so far no one has any idea what the heck is going on with it.


Anyone know anything?!
 
It may be the case when the day comes to leave the marina you will be given the bill to pay the tax , I would guess if you can prove that you wasn't in Greece you won't have to pay the 100% fine , I hope for everyone sake this is the case .

Bit difficult for us to claim we weren't here, since, uhm, we are! However, say I don't read the YBW forum. How on Earth would I be aware of this new tax that has come in? Unless the marina makes me aware of this new tax, I'll claim ignorance. No way can they penalise you for being unaware of a new, poorly introduced tax.

Ignorance is no excuse - they will say it was publicised on the Greek by the government in Greek - not their fault that you don't speak Greek.....

How are we supposed to know about the new tax if we are not officially notified?

YBW? Who are they? Cruising association? Not a member!

Unfortunately it is a fundamental rule of law that ignorance is not innocence. Maybe by the time that many of us arrive to launch there will be notices all over. Whereas many yards will not launch you without a permit from the PP, others seem to be not the slightest bit concerned, so it's still likely to be something of a lottery.

Yes and no. In the UK, at least. You, and the above posters, are indeed correct about ignorance not being an excuse. I should know, I've used that phrase enough times. However, the government have to be fair (haha!) and give at least fair warning in relation to new laws.

I'm guessing this tax will have a "soft opening" and people will be notified and be expected to pay as and when they come into contact with port police. At least to begin with.

We're being hauled out on the 13th Jan. Let's see if they mention it when I pop into the marina office.
 
Can't speak for Gouvia but I'm overlooking Kalkan harbour (Turkey) as I type and can see no evidence of flotillas of floating refugees from Greece. Everyone around here is on tenterhooks to see how the tax pans out without at the same time becoming one of its guinea pigs. But at least we have choices which may be denied to those with boats already in Greece.

Fair winds and fair treatment, all, for the new year.

In many countries new laws are published in an official newspaper (gazetted) and that is considered fair notice.

At least you have had warning . A few months ago Turkey and the Schengen countries without apparent notice reinterpreted the 90/180 Visa rules and as a consequence , certainly in Turkey, a number of people who complied with the previous interpretation but not the latest more restrictive rule were fined for overstaying when they left the country.
