I've decided i'm going to try and get the boat into Monaco this year for the GP. It seems you have a better chance of getting a berth if you can provide some link to F1, so i'm on the hunt for anyone that would be prepared to send me something on a F1 related letterhead suggesting in vague terms that they know me!

The link can be to either the F1 organisation, the teams or the sponsors.

Someone on here said I look like a young Adrian newey, does that help?

Try this guy.

Ed Murdoch , Director, Fugare1.com

He was very helpful to me when we booked my stag do last year. His company also throws a party on one of the superyachts every year.

I didnt book through him or buy anything from him but met him on the Friday before the race to say thanks for all the help. Really nice guy.

My guardian organises a skipper ( 300-400 € ) runs me in ( lads trip or Family) and we kiss a pontoon in Fontveille disembark to then go to a proper seat .He then 8uggers off and moors the boat in the foreground on the TV .We ring him when we are ready to go after car race
Much better to view race from a seat in the stands .
Probs with actual dockside in Port Hercule is that you can not really see a great deal or hear and rely on a big screen .( done that on mates boat)

But with out pricking your bubble my Guardian , knows a thing or too about the whole SoF " glamour scene " And how to " lubricate " the palms of the Captainerie - eye watering sums .
from Morning in St Trop inner harbour , table in the best club/ restaurant @ Pampelone , previews and births @ Cannes film festival and boat show .

Monaco - just to get considered for a birth in P H it's not unusual to send a gold Rolex to Captainerie ,

It can be a boat race to watch a "car" race followed by another boat race - home
Good Luck !

think MRC had his at the race this year? maybe worth a pm to see how he did it??

Yep, it was MRC that gave me the tip about having a link to F1.

Portofino, I can't dispute what you're saying, other than MRC got a berth last year in quite a good location without paying any backhanders. Having said that, the standard rates are pretty eyewatering already, and I realise you get a better view of the race sat at home watching it on TV, but if we get the boat in we can experience the whole party weekend atmosphere, so I reckon its worth it as one of those things to tick off the list.

I think you would be better off booking a space on one of the big yachts. Saves you a lot of hassle.

nick

without prying too much what is an average costing per meter for the event if berthed trackside in monaco just curious

The prices are on the Monaco port web site (http://www.ports-monaco.com/images/stories/grand-prix-2013-en.pdf)

For boats up to 20m it costs between 4 and 9k euro for a week covering the whole event, although the 4k euro places are in the seperate port of Fontveille a long way from the track, and with no view of it. To be in the main port is 8 or 9k euro.

I have 10 people prepared to contribute £6-700 each, which shares the cost nicely.

Nah, the whole idea is to go with a bunch of mates and enjoy the atmosphere of the event while staying on my own boat. Booking a place on someone elses boat doesn't appeal at all.

I Spend half my life with them Nick and know the grande fromage. When JoeV offered Mirabella V for the race back in 2006-8 the main fromage kindly rang the port to get a 75m space sorted

Can you specify what you want the letter to say, and whom addressed to? I can ask for the letter on f1 letterhead, but I have to put it under their nose rather than ask them to compose it, if you get my drift. So can you send the text ready to cut n paste?

Great, thanks. I should have remembered that you advise F1, I think we've even talked about it. Mind you, these days I struggle to remember what I did yesterday!

The guidance on what is required is quite vague, they just invite you to attach documents to "establish a link with F1, the grand prix, and their sponsors, signed by indentifiable and entitled people", and "any justification of authenticity of the signatures which he (the applicant) will consider necessary".

I'll e-mail some suitable wording

Think you need to chop in the Prinny for something very glam with a tall mast because one line of your letter will be saying:

"Please put us on the quai next to the swimming pool so that Mr Wolf can sit up in the cross-trees looking down on the track" :D

IMHO
If you plan to watch any of the races from your boat, it is absolutely essential to have access to some kind of commentary. Nothing worse than spending huge sums of cash and then not knowing what's going on. So a berth near one of the large screens would (IMO) be worth more than one closer to the track. In Valencia, we used the Satellite TV for the commentary but this year, there is a distinct possibility that as the new satellites go online, BBC TV coverage will be generally unavailable outside the UK. So a full SkyHD may be an option.

Monaaco is entirely different to the Valencia one we visited last year. The atmosphere at Monaco itself will be quite different so just being in the harbour may be exciting in itself.

Get a nice berth, a good croud and a full fridge and you could have a fantastic time.

Also I understand that the BBC are only showing the highlights of Monaco this year, not the live race ....... :(
