Had a good look at 12m (ish) boats since sibs, and just got back from looking at few more options in Majorca, and our favourite so far seems to be the Princess V39. Ticks all the boxes on size, style, and comfort, and found an MBY review that gave it a good write up.

Would be interested if anyone on the forum has one, and how they get on with it?

Thanks

Martyn

Hi Martyn. We had one from 1995 to 2013 (http://www.playdeau.com/previous-boats/). Loved her and cruised her widely. The KAD42s always spilled coolant until Volvo realised it was because the expansion bottles were too small and fitted larger ones.

We fitted a large camper hood (see the pics) and a switch to cope with reverse polarity at french marinas. Great hull, great boat.

We suffered form water ingress into the engine compartment. Princess could not find the source but we did and cured it. It was in the windscreen moulding that allowed water to drain aft to the radar arch and down the engine compartment.

But I'll keep saying she was a great boat.

Think Op was reffering to the latest modal V39 ? ??

Yes we are looking at something around 2013 model year, had a look at the SIBS one, and then a s/hand one down at Swanick, very nice, and particularly taken by the accommodation and the bathing platform, amongst other things.

Also saw a nice model in Majorca, and it just looks really good. We haven't arranged any sea trials yet, I think we just want to get as much information as we can and then start narrowing down what we can get in our budget.

Just be good to chat to any forumites that may have one.

Thanks Piers, thats a good reference for Princess!

I know of another newish V39 called 'Gîte' which owned by Steve & Penny, (forgotten their surname I'm afraid!), and Steve was Forum member, but I can't remember his User name, but perhaps he may see this thread.

Just a comment from a FB owner.
We have discussed this many times on the forum and there are two views.
IMO, if you are intending on staying on the boat rather than taking an apartment as well, a flybridge boat in the Med makes more sense.
There is much more space on board - the flybridge is an extra entertainment area.
Usually, the accommodation deck is exclusively that.
More space to lock your valuables.
Warmer in the winter months.
Lots of benefits.
But mainly, there is much more space.
You might have to pay more or settle for an older boat but, IMO, worthwhile.

Yup we learnt that expensive lesson ourselves after one season in the Med with a Targa 48!

I ran some boats down from Phuket to Singapore towards the start of the year, one of which was a 2015 Princess V39.

It never missed a beat in 650 odd miles and handled some lumps off Malaysia with ease. A very quick boat with economical cruising close to 30 knots.

As you've already noticed decent accommodation and with the option of a hi-lo platform. I'm a flybridge fan these days but we had a Targa 35 back in the day so not unfamiliar with sports boats of that sort of size.

I remember seeing the V39 for the first time at London and being pleasantly surprised that there wasn't any lessening of fit or finish compared to the more expensive boats.

Henry :)

But FB,s are not very sporty are they ?
12 M FB,s less so -lumpy styling added as well -they rock badly at anchor too .
At 12 M or so in the Med for holidays ,I assume then an open is perfect ---I know :)
I was never run down / overtaken by a FB when I had a 2003 Portofino 35 (11.7M) .equivalent to a modern day newish V39 .
It's all about outdoor living .
BTW we went all over in it west to Marsielle .East to Portofino , ,Elba, Corsica etc .
12M is nice size for mooring ,maintenance , running costs etc ----it can be done

Porto, do you have a property where you keep your boat?

Yes , it does not come with us though ,when we go touring .
Granted if weather locally plays up ( we are summer boaters ) then in the back of our minds we bug out ,but pref to stay on the boat .
Open Vs FB argument is really down to how you propose to use the boat .
But bear in mind it's more of an outdoor life in the summer , and you form a close relationship with the sea --ie you want to get in it
