I'm thinking of having Flexiteek deck put on my boat and would be interested in 'speaking' to other boat owners who have had this done and potentially see a boat with it fitted

i worked at Sealine International for over 20 years , and real teak was fitted until Flexiteak came about.
It is absolutely amazing stuff!!!
You cannot tell that it is false at all, and i have an extremely critical pair of mince pies!
Real teak goes this horrible grey colour very quickly, even when treated!
I know, I know....a light sand back and re-coat, and good as new.
Why bother, Flexiteak in my book is the best thing since sliced bread.
not sure how it compares in price, but saves cutting down more trees!!!

Hi Buddy, we had our cockpit on our Legend done as i was sick of looking like a 'fat chinese guy' with the squinting in the sun !!! (appologies to all fat chinese sailors :) )

Made a hell of a difference, looks like real teak but without the maintenance, just wash down and its non slip so good allround

Thinking of having the side decks done next as it is expensive !!

When I did my cockpit with it it worked out at about £110 / sq m.

It does the job. It is definately 'false' It gets bloody hot in the med but cools down with a bucket of seawater ( Teak gets just as hot ! )

It also solved the problem of several hundred screw heads penetrating the skin and causing it to leak.

i have been scouting around, yes, it seems to be a far superior solution to real traditional teak, but far more expensive!
Well, well ,well worth the cost though, if you can afford it!
Low maintainance, superior finish!
Also try price comparisons with...Nu teak....Tek dek...and Marine deck 2000

Flexiteek are offering (me) free fitting, boat show offer if I order by the end of October. All comments I've read seem very positive, but I would really like to see a boat with it fitted before I take the plunge.

Why don't you ask the manufacturer/supplier. If they can't direct you to a boat they have fitted that might tell you something!

Yup, that was my feeling to, so asked them that very question on Friday, it's money where your mouth time for them now.

may i just add....
the flexi teak decking fitted on the majority of sealine boats was professionally fitted by a company called Watsons, they came in with special state of the art 5 axis , laser pattern copying equipment!
Once they had all the deck area surface profiled, they made a pattern!
All of the rubber teak then came to us tailor made.

This next bit is hard to explain...here goes.....
imagine a 10" strip of teak lying down your port side catwalk....
it would be made up of a pattern of approximately 5 individual strips.

There is a point i am trying to explain, so bear with me.....
these 5 strips were individually pattern stamped into the flexiteak so that each individual piece of decking had a solid 2" strip following the curved profiles of your deck edges.

If you just simply bought it off a roll, the 5 patterned strips wont follow any curves on your deck!
They will just run off in a straight line!

It all comes down to astetics!

LOL its a fact, but maybe not a point worth mentioning
Glad i got it off me chest though !!

Well if your on or near Cowes your very welcome to look at the finish i have had done, a guy called Simon from Tek Dek fitted it, after taking the patterns he returned a few days later to fit, despite all the mitres he did a fantastic job.
No its not real teak, but its not the cost, yes it gets hot in the sun......... what doesnt !!!!! Yes its easy to clean and it doesnt need the attention real teak does.
You pay your money you make your choice i guess !!!

Flexiteek

We had Flexiteek fitted to the cockpit of our Hunter Pilot by Wardle Marine Services, who seem to be the main agents. Guy came down to Plymouth and made the templates and came back a few weeks later to fit, with a further quick visit the following day for final cleaning.

We're very pleased with it - easy to keep clean and doesn't look too fake. We chose Flexiteek having looked at the alternatives at SBS as we preferred the colour. I've also spoken to another HP27 owner who had the cockpit fitted with Flexiteek and then went on to have the decks done as well, and he was positive about it.

Hope this helps.

I've got tek dek and yes it's good, doesn't matter what you spill it comes off, as said it does get hot,

Your welcome to come to look I'm in west Sussex and down this coming weekend unless we go away on boat.
