Anyone fancy a share of a big toy?

Yes looks the biz when you consider that £60K would only buy a decent 37ft Princess or similar of the same age.

Doesn't look too 'industrial' as it is, and a bit of teak and new clour scheme here and there, it could look the part in many marinas.

Maybe I'll but an extra lucky dip tomorrow just incase /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

I think at 78 feet a more economic berth than a marina would be needed, otherwise yes.

Now that's my sort of boat, no doubt a huge engine room, loads of deck space, go anywhere in any weather. Doesn't mention accomodation but i guess there must be loads of it. Main problem is where to keep it, and I wonder how much fuel those 1000hp engines will use?

Actually at 12kts it uses about 100 litres per hour in total, top speed is 23.62 kts, comes with 2 x 33kva gennies, a 3 ton hiab with its own diesel engine, top notch radar etc etc.

Now where can I find a suitable mooring............................?

All we need is 100 forum members to put in £600 each, and we could forget the Round Britain Burgee, just keep this monster circumnavigating the UK, with a Med trip each summer.

Each member gets 4 weeks 'timeshare' (plus any cancellation options), I'm sure it would accomodate the 8 couples/families at any one time in comfort. We just need to ensure that the crew contingent include; a diesel fitter, painter, joiner, soft furnisher, comms engineer etc. etc.

A couple of years later, we'll have all had a ball, sell it on for £200K and marvel at return on our investment.

First 100 pledge your interest now......................

My comment was only slightly tongue in cheek, a swinging mooring in Portsmouth Harbour, or even a grace and favour one in the dockyard (there must be a grey funnel contributer here somewhere) would be much more than a grand would it?

Annual refit on the Moray Firth or somewhere where fishing boats of that size are not seen as an opportunity to score a big charge. Hands to for a week on the unskilled stuff. Perhaps a circumnavigation or two of the UK each year with a bit of Europe along the way.

Not too many partners though.

I think we should keep it at Mr Newmans place up the Fal. It's only £300 quid a week for that great big ship of JCB's. So 50 quid should easy cover this one. Besides theres already the Yemenee crew there already for the paint jobs!! We can sit having cream teas and discuss the colour scheme and Mucky Farter can be the tender../forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Yeah, I saw that one too, much better looking proposition!
And, what the hell, if we're all going to be bloody stuopid the price doesnt really matter, does it? Like the idea of getting the work done by the mothball fleet up the Fal as well, not to mention you buying us all a drink at the pub by King Harry ferry!

Re: Sixty-four 64ths perhaps?

If you're suggesting nobody would share with me you're probably right! Also someone mentioned wives in this thread, but I would have thought this was a mans boat, a place where a "respectable" woman would feign set foot or be welcome. A marine version of the garden shed.

A place where breakfasts would always involve a frying pan and a bottle opener, ( or even sometimes removal of wire and cork). Berthing would be in docks not marinas, locations where "characters" gather in low drinking dens, where the skirts are too short and the sling-backs a bit obvious and the landlady a "treasure".

A place where the events of the night are forgotten in the morning, and not raised every three months for the rest of your life.

A boat that goes on grey days as well as blue, and where Musto breathables give way to a duffle coat and wellies.

Cocoa No. 1?

Re: Sixty-four 64ths perhaps?

Tutts is quite taken with it. We dont do Musto anyway and much preffer the locations where "characters" gather in low drinking dens, where the skirts are too short and the sling-backs a bit obvious and the landlady a "treasure.

Also. A place where the events of the night are forgotten in the morning, and not raised every three months for the rest of your life.
That would be the best.

So when we getting started ??

how much is it?

I know a bloke that works for the MOD disposal agency that flog all the gear to babcock's, all ask him and see whats on offer, I know that they cant get rid of HMS Fearless, apparently 40k would buy it, and its bloody huge!!

<hr width=100% size=1>Sod the Healey - I think I'll buy an E-Type.

60 grand I fink. Mind you I suspect fearless might be a bit big for our marina, getting to the fuel pontoon would be a night mare!! This one looks just about the right size and it's got a fly bridge as well so I would feel quite at home..../forums/images/icons/smile.gif
Mooring would be cheap as could leave it most any place and go ashore in a proper sized tender. We may need a tender for the tender!!

VIEWING

Monday, Wednesday or Friday. I have to provide the names of all coming, make and registration number of vehicles, and provide a mobile phone number. (It's because of the prison ship apparently).

They need 24 hours notice.

Fridays are best for me, (nobody places mail order business on Fridays), and it probably makes for a fast start to the weekend as well.

So, how about Friday?

Re: VIEWING

Well I'll see what I can do about friday then. (Which Friday??)

Just a thought. I've sailed 50 odd ton stuff before. But are we supposed to have a captain for this, or is it OK to just bum around as usual??

Re: VIEWING

I haven't a clue. I had a 63 foot Herd and Mackenzie trawler yacht with twin 8LXB's and was insured OK for that. She was said to be 70 tons. I think if you can be insured you're OK.

I thought this Friday.

The reason I sold my last 50 foot boat was because I was fed up not getting crew, (its a long story about business causing a lost friendship), my wife having been aboard 16 days in 22 years. When I can be bothered I'm going to buy something big enough for guests aboard and small enough to single hand.

So for lots of reasons I'd be a purchaser of a 6th, maybe a 5th or even a 4th, but the critical thing for me would be how the boat was going to be used. Dividing up the year into sections won't work for me, the odd weekend might, but a shared boat with 10/12 in a syndicate using the boat together would be the only way I'd want to be part of this. Apart from which 5 or 6 on board at a time keeps the hourly operating overhead fun not a chore.

Did you have an idea about how a syndicate thing would work?
