Anyone familiar with the Dtronic 4.2 motor - 220HP?

Yes, i stand by mine wording that the 220hp 4.2 mercruiser is NOT a d-tronic until volvo paul prooves me wrong but that does not mean its a bad engine.

They did two version , normal Bosch VE pump 220hp and a VE ECU controlled 250hp. compare it to the KAD 43 which is 230hp mechanical controlled VE pump , KAD 44 260 HP , Bosch VE ECU controlled pump.

There is usually a noticeable asking price difference between UK built boats which had the option of being powered by Volvo Penta or Mercruiser.
There may or may not be a good reason for this state of affairs such as the availabilty of dealers and spares.
Owners who have Mercruisers seem very happy with them.
Friend had a pair of 165HP ? in a Broom 33 and they appeared to be very smooth and quiet engines.
Shame it never managed to exceed 13 knots even on good day.

Yeh - I have to say the motor runs nice and smooth - there was a tiny bit of startup smoke (but very little) which disappeared as soon as there was a little heat in the motor.

It does look huge in the engine bay though - a straight six instead of a V8 certainly changes the dynamic of available space in the bay.

Check why the turbo lags

So we agree the 220hp 4.2 mercruiser mentioned here is NON d-tronic ?

Have a maxum 3000 with two of them in it ..6 years in .. your sea ray is the better cousin of the brand ..
both engines have been great .. bravo 2 legs have give me more trouble but regular maintenance keeps them ticking on ..

Brunswick, Mercruiser parent company owned Sealine for a few years, hence in that period, Merc diesels and the Zeus Pods appeared.
