Anyone else noticed Foxes Chandlery prices becoming more competitive?

...or is it just me?

Tin of Woodskin in Foxes yesterday was £18.00. Cheapest online price £17.89

Thats the third purchase on the trot that has been same price (or near as dammit) as cheapest online price. A quick browse yesterday at various other items I'm after told a similar story.

Rather handy too as its right on my doorstep. I heard somewhere recently that the upstairs outdoor dept is being closed - I only hope it isn't merged with the downstairs chandlery, to the latter's detriment.

They can't make money from the outdoor clothing, so they're converting the upstairs into rentable office accommodation. To access this they are building a new staircase with a dedicated outside entrance, in the back right-hand corner of the chandlery, so this is reducing the downstairs area. I imagine they'll still want to offer electronics and some sailing clothing downstairs, so it will probably either get a bit cramped or there'll be a reduced product range on the shelves.

When they first opened the new place they properly took the piss with their prices. In store prices were much higher than their own online prices. You could order online and collect at online prices, but to me that was just taking the piss out of locals and bertholders. They have now stopped that practice and their prices, in general, have got much more competitive. The internet has proven to be a great leveler. Fox's definitely have the best on the shelf stock in the area.

Another worthwhile chandlers in the area is Seamark Nunn at Trimley St Martin. Not as much in stock as Fox's, but very competitive and will get most things in, in a day or two. Worth placing an order for collection when coming down to the boat.

Imho the best chandlers I've found in the UK. Best stock range, best advice (Henry is great). Ok, not always the very best price, but at least they've usually got whatever it is I need in a hurry.

Another vote for Henry.

BUT, outside Henry's domain, it used to be the case that if you used your Foxes Card the price dropped to roughly ten per cent more than it would be anywhere else.

I have noticed an improvement, but my vote for "best chandler" would go to SYH - the ladies who seem to run it have done an awful lot of real sailing and they know their stuff. (Be it noted that they bought Moray McPhail's chandlery stock, fwiw... Moray is still in business but got fed up with retail...)

Yes, they will price match, I always bought my antifouling from Mailspeed, but showed Foxes the online price and they said yes, you can have it at the same price, picked up in store thus saving postage.

Have to agree prices have become very competitive.

Added bonus that they carry quiote a bit of stock so unlike some chandlers where you order online and then find the product is not in stock I have found Foxs very good in this area.

When on the ship it is very convenient to call in.

My charger passed away peacefully during the night :(

Fox's was the best price i could find for a new Sterling Pro Charge Ultra, which was handy as they had one in stock :)

Foxs have become more competitive, but so has Seamark Nunn - both will price match but Foxs often have it in stock whereas Seamark Nunns will have it in a day or so, not a problem as I can collect on the way to the boat.
