Am at Ipswich Maritime Festival & never again! Have our two dogs on board and large bangs all weekend canon/small arms fire have left them traumatised (sp?). Not the Festival or our fault except not the place to bring dogs on board. Our two are not the nervous type but the continuing explosions has been too much. A smack owner nearby has a very young baby and has had similarly unpleasant time.

We went to the supposed 'Maritime' festival.
The shoreside was populated by charities, army re-enactment types, numerous food/drink outlets and market stalls. On the water, a couple of additional Thames Barges, steam coaster, tug or two. The gaffers were in the Haven Marina with a gate code required to mooch about officially.
We will not bother again.
Where were the tall ships? Where were the maritime related stalls (only saw RNLI and Environment agency on the north side and RNLI Sea Check on the Haven side. Massive disappointment but typical of Ipswich Borough Council who big up the waterfront at the expense of the rest of the town and then can't organise this event to be worthwhile.
Where were the shanty bands - there were a couple of stages with people performing on but no sea shanties...
<sigh> is it really that difficult.
Suggest they check out Oostende VoorAnker or Sail De Ruijter in Vlissingen to see how it's done.

Annoying about gated access - last year anybody interested could come and look at the gaffers & talk to the owners. I had a laminated board made up re Storm's history but limited number got to read it.
