Hi everyone I am having the tread master replaced on my Westerly Corsair, once it is finished I will have to refit all the deck fittings that I have removed, I really don't want to spoil the new tread master with Sikaflex so I am considering using Butyl tape seems a much more controllable product your opinion on this would be very much appreciated thank you in advance. Mike

Butyl is a good sealant and fine for that job. Sika is not silicone (which is not suitable) but an adhesive/sealant that sets and will be just as effective as butyl. No need for it to be messy if you mask around the fitting.

Sika is a company which makes sealants, including silicone sealant.

I will be having to take my windows out this winter (Alloy frames with glass) The butyl rubber between frame & glass has gone hard & cracked up & they are starting to leak. They are 11 years old. Not impressed!

Butyl for me too on deck fittings and windows/hatches and no problems over the last 7 years. Again I would not use below the waterline, prefering Sika for that, but that's just a personal opinion, it might be perfectly acceptable for those fittings too.
