Anybody Else Cancelled Their Easter Sail

Going down to the boat now, she goes in at midday if she doesn't sink, if I miss the mooring and plough into somebodies boat I'll carry straight on to Chichester Marina to crash into the lock gates, if still afloat I'll crash into the fuel pontoon, fill up with spewing foamy diesel everywhere after which I'll do the whole thing in reverse but hopefully manage to hook the mooring boy second time around, if not I'll carry straight on to practice with the staysail and get it wrapped or jammed etc........ Boy am I looking forward to today!! I'm spending the night on board, it's going to be -2 apparently. Boy am I looking forward to tonight!! No I really am, just happy to get her in the water at last :D

I've not been down to the boat since I put her to bed for the winter. Usually I'd get down there a few times in February to run the engine and get her aired for a bit. I was going to go down last weekend, but chickened out because of the cold. This weekend, therefore will be for making sure she hasn't sunk on the pontoon, charging the batteries, pressure washing all the green off the decks and stuff like that, so everything's sorted to go straight out when the weather does improve. SWMBO is away the following weekend, so me and the dog may spend the weekend camping on her, assuming the weather isn't too atrocious. (Which means we probably won't be going down there)

The allotment plot is similarly neglected. I'm expecting a snotty email from the allotment stasi very soon, pointing out the fact and threatening me with dire consequences if I don't start digging immediately.

LOL :D Fair winds, Zagato!

I'll be on the boat, with the heating on, sampling whisky's, listening to the radio, and reading various books I need to catch up on. I'm not going out in this nonsense. First actual holiday of the year too. Bummer!
Sounds like a plan.

We are fully booked for anything over 35feet, but some smaller spaces available.
How long ago were the bookings made?
You'll have to keep us updated on here as the no shows and cancellations start coming in.
Presumably you will have a busy Monday as the new annual berth holders arrive and some of the existing leave.

Snow flurries

Was out the last two weekends, extraordinarily cold. The missus was skiing and was warmer than us!
Left Ocean Village on Sunday to snow flurries so were back in Haslar by 2.30 cos I was wimping it. Nice sail though.
Be curious to find out from Nick how many boats turn up at Berthon. Suspect there will be shedloads of cancellations.
Best of luck to all the hearties who brave it, I shall be loading a few more logs on the fire after wandering down to watch the boat race. Bet no nutter tries to swim out and interfere this year.

We haven't cancelled anything - the tender is on the mooring awaiting the return of the mothership ... whether we go straight there or via another port depends on just how flippin cold it is! :)

Put back launch by a month - originally was due to launch yesterday. Other factors as well as the weather, but the weather was a large part of the reason.

Boat not even antifouled yet. I bought the paint weeks ago but its too cold! I might launch for May at this rate.

I am not sure if you have moved your boat up to the FOC. I always seem to anti foul in cold weather, early/late March. Last year the boat was in all year so I missed the warm March and the one before that, when it was last anti fouled, was just as cold as this one. Anyway, the point is at 1 to 5 Celsius, Cruiser Uno still goes on well and adheres as expected. The boot top, International's Trilux 33, doesn't tip off smoothly as when its warmer, there are ridges, it sets up or thickens fast when applied but it sticks and works. The boat stays in the water for two years and the anti foul works as expected.

So come on, get the long johns out, the beanie hat, gloves and get anti fouling. No excuse this cold weather - Largs has been a hive of activity!

I WILL be sailing over these holidays and I don't care what what the weather is like.
I WILL be scrubbing the decks.
I WILL polish the hull.
I WILL antifoul.
I WON'T be wearing 5 layers of fleece.
..... Did I mention the boat is in Crete.......
Many downsides to having your boat thousands of miles away - the weather isn't one.

Launched on Tuesday and boat up and running today. Weather up here in Scotland cold, but dry and sunny with nice winds so away at the weekend a distinct possibility. Arran is snow from top to bottom.

Agree - I put on two coats of cruiser UNO at about 3c max between the tides at Port Edgar, late feb and it went on fine. I thought I was crazy at the time, but sitting in snow now I realise I had a plan in mind
