Anybody Else Cancelled Their Easter Sail

No sailing for me.
Still waiting for the engine header tank back from the engineering co who are fettling it for me.
No use launching without a usable engine.
Going to the yard tomorrow for a few days to get on with all the other tasks that I have been putting off all winter.
Hope I can get the heating going or I may be home sooner than planned.

Tides are wrong to launch next weekend so it will be mid April before we are on the water.

Did Port Solent to Cowes Yacht Haven to Hamble weekend ... It was absolutely freeeeeeezzzzzzing.
I wish I had taken my gloves!

At least we didn't fall it unlike 3 unlucky race boat occupants!

Had a cracking sail yesterday. Bit parky but the sun came out for around 10 mins. Glad we were going West tho!;)

I have cancelled the: antifouling; putting the boat in water; repairing the spreader; renewing the chain on the ketch anchor; repairing the tiller; ordering numbers for the main sail.....................................too cold. Instead I have spent 4 days, trying to work out why my Blackberry 9900 uses up the battery within 7 hours from fully charged.

I'll be on the boat, with the heating on, sampling whisky's, listening to the radio, and reading various books I need to catch up on. I'm not going out in this nonsense. First actual holiday of the year too. Bummer!

See you in the Ferry Boat?
From which the clever might work out that we are also not sailing...

I did get out on the water yesterday, putting some of the club race marks out in Christchurch Bay, it was glorious but whether with the forecast anyone will actually go out racing is open to debate. My boat is on the water with the mast up (done on Mon/Tue) but a lot of work needed before I go sailing and I'm getting too old to relish waking up on the water in these temperatures.

The boot top, International's Trilux 33, doesn't tip off smoothly as when its warmer, there are ridges, it sets up or thickens fast when applied but it sticks and works.

My boot topping was so thick in the tin you would have needed a trowel, thinners sorted it out.

Woke up on the boat this morning, sunny, no wind :D but within an hour at 9.00 it blew up a hooley and the wind was freezing  I was off the boat an hour later, will try again in a couple of days...

Still watching forecasts and cogitating. Was all off due to wind a week ago, but a bit more promising

So packing the car whilst it was snowing was a bit disconcerting ........ but had a great fast sail in the sunshine, all downwind with one gybe. Coffee stop in a deserted Asgog Bay and then dinner in the Victoria (regulars will have worked out where this is). Heating on ... now to survive a sub-zero night. Brrrr

We bought Baltic survival /flotation suits in Sweden a couple of years ago for about £180 each. Best clothing purchase we've made. Superwarm, dry, & windproof. Perfect for night passages, and chilly Easter sailing. Really amazing

Moved boat from Chichester to the Hamble on Friday. Disconcerting to wake up to boat surrounded by ice and certainly my first time on an icebreaker. But with plenty of layers was relatively pleasant. Appreciated central heating and hot bath at home though!!
