Hi, we will be heading to the Med' this year (Atlantic route), leaving at the end of April, target Barcelona by mid October, via Brittany and Vendee to La Rochelle, then cutting corner to Gijon. We have 2 kids aboard, Poppy (b. Feb 03) and Chiara (b. Dec 04) and would like to know of any other families with young children on the way South, particularly for our (almost) 2 year old to meet up with.

Thanks for your help.

We did that route last year with our 3 kiddies, 7,5, and 1yr. Now in Lagos, well the boat is! We will be in the Balearics next winter, happy to meet up if our paths cross. Our kids have cruised with us since birth, including helping bring the current boat back from Turkey, so the older ones have two Biscays under their belts. With the little one keeping the passages as short as possible is important, ours is hyperactive and didn't enjoy Biscay much! We went from ille d'yeu to Santander to keep it as short as possible last year. The older ones are fine on longer passages of a few days but I wouldn't want to be out there for weeks with them!

The memsahib and I messed around in the Med for a few years. Young kids are BRILLIANT at making customs / immigration / port officials / police bend over backwards to help you.
Have a good trip.

I take it that you intend to winter in Barcelona. Last year we booked with Port Vell as soon as they would accept bookings (April I think?) and joined a waiting list. We arrived in June and spent 3 enjoyable months there hoping that we would climb the list but in the end no joy and had to give up to winter further north in the Costa Brava. Big problem for us last year. Also try Port Olympic. I wish you more luck than we had.
