any ocean YM instructors looking for a job.

Talking to someone about the rate of pay in sailing makes you realise folk do it for love, cos the bulk of trainers earn peanuts.

If I had a halfway decent pension I could think it would be nice to do the job to stay on the water, and enjoy the enthusiasm of the punters, but if one of my kids was looking at it I would worry for them, though did have one niece who went in that route and now sits in paradise in the summer running crewed charters for some rich american, and earns more in a season in tips than I could make in a year.

sound like it could be interesting.

Don't think so.
They're looking for a "strong team player" with "excellent inter-personal skills" and the "ability to multi task".
Same profile as for any office job, it can't be that much interesting.

I am surprised they haven't signed up one of their recent graduates /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Over the years I had many graduates work for me at HMG radiocommunications research labs and we had an expression for them:

They can work out pi x r(squared) x h of a jam jar but they can't get the f*cking lid off!!

What was meant was that they knew all the theory but could not apply it in any way shape or form. If you asked them to calculate "the free space path loss of a 3.4GHz 3 watt transmitter with an antenna gain of 22dBi over a flat country terrain of 17.8 miles with a humidity of 73% and some precipitation at the distant end" they could work it out in a trice.

If you then asked them to set up a test project on the Open Area Test Site (OATS) they were totally lost! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

[/ QUOTE ]Interesting comment - but not the sort of 'Graduate' that was being referred to I believe. UKSA have a variety of people who gain qualifications through them, but the YM Instructor ticket is not given away, and the number of miles required before your are eligible to submit yourself to the 1 week exam is beyond their fast-track program.
