Any interest in a GPS speedo?

My current electronics project is to build a device that uses an existing GPS feed to interface with a Raymarine Speed instrument. A matter of decoding the speed data and converting to an 11.2V square wave at 5.5Hz/knot to simulate the paddle wheel. Not much interest in the WAFI forums though.

BTW, when VAT was 15%, knots were mph plus VAT :)

Interesting idea. I don't think many people read the battery operated bit. Although it would be a limited a small selector on the veroboard to select Knots, Mph, Kph would open it up to a larger market! I would think a large LCD display would be easier to see in direct sunlight.
Keep us posted!

I'll have one if it's less than £30. A useful backup especially if there's also a heading function. "If all else fails"
Want to have a crack at a fuel flow monitoring system for bigger older none ecm engines?
I can't figure out why such a simple piece of kit (turbine meter+guage) can be so hideously expensive.
